That is fantastic. The thing about UEFA and all its faults, the impossible task of having to balance between keeping its federations happy AND doing the right things for the sport, they have also made some great moves and this is one of them.

That is fantastic. The thing about UEFA and all its faults, the impossible task of having to balance between keeping its federations happy AND doing the right things for the sport, they have also made some great moves and this is one of them. FIFA along with some big US Corporations and big club owners have bigger plans for crazy $$$. Billions, through exclusive rights and much more ... There has been a financial war in "football" behind the scenes for sometime now between them and UEFA. UEFA is supported by its federations trying to keep the local leagues relevant. Their proactiveness has kept them in play. Of course its more complex than that but that's where we're at. One byproduct that might actually be a good thing is the Europa Conference League as a 3rd tier event in Europe. It was formally announced the other day (check UEFA site for details). Ironically, many moons ago before the UCL era and when there were far fewer European countries around before the 90s, there used to be three major competitions in UEFA: the Champions Cup (Champions of countries only), the Cup Winners Cup, and the UEFA Cup where each country had anywhere between 1 and 4 teams. It looks they're going back to that, different budgets and awards of course and with the main difference between now and then being the top leagues have the bulk of their teams in the highest competition (UCL) and while is extremely difficult for a Champion of a small soccer nation to get to UCL, it is still possible. It does not affect current UCL. The key is the huge $ difference between the Champions League and the Europa Conference League, with Europa League somewhere in between. More money for the big boys, better chance for trophies and some money too for the little guys too. Sorry for going off a tangent here but I agree, seeing women being refs at this level is awesome and applaud UEFA for that. All else being equal, let's hope to see more of them on the fields, and as coaches also. Regardless, they should simply be coaches or refs etc etc who just happen to be women or black or whatever.
