Boys side was decent competition, Refs were good, SC ODP coaches Great but with the rain the fields got the fields were a disaster. One field had a puddle that took up the entire goal box, as well as tons a of muddy spots that the ball just stopped dead in. SC team should have scored and megged our GA Gk but the ball was low and slow and ended up stopping in the puddle before crossing the goal line.
Wasnt exactly thrilled to drive 3 hours one way for a game with 18 players but luckily the kiddo got to play 3/4 of the game while others only got one full half. While SC teams typically had 3-4 subs. Not sure why they couldn’t do a two day event (Girls Saturday / Boys Sunday ) to give us two games to justify the 6-7 hour drive.
Talking with a couple of the SC odp coaches seems they have a better handle on odp then GA. They have over 10 college coaches on staff so they’re able to essentially do recruiting during this dead period with all these kids because they’re coaching them.
Not sure SC United FC was too thrilled with ODP destroying their fields for a one day event either.

Fields were an absolute travesty. I was just glad no one got hurt.
Play was ok - always harder to watch teams that don't know each other very well. SC looked more coordinated that GA.

My kid is in quarantine due to exposure so we missed it.
Why on earth in this day and age is ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE, playing soccer on a surface other than turf in December/January? If SCUFC doesn't have turf they should have done it elsewhere. Pay a couple high schools to use their turf fields FFS.

Thanks, she's fine. 9th day of quarantine, no symptoms. The worst part is that she was out of her previous quarantine for about 2 days before we were told she was exposed again. Didn't contract COVID either time, but quite annoying.

SC must have had fewer players because some played more than one game while several from GA did not even make the trip.

The fields were awful. My daughter had the 3pm game after 2 or 3 games had already been played on the field and they were just mud. Numerous times the girls were dribbling and the ball would just stop in a puddle and they kept going. Our coach told my daughter who is a goalie dont call for a back pass since it only had a 50 50 chance of getting back to her. Only field I have seen worse was one in the Birmingham tournament several years ago.
On the good side the refs we had were actually pretty good for a change and the girls with the 04-05 group that my daughter plays on seemed fairly even between GA and SC.
As for the college coaches I know SC had several who were there that we knew from my older daughters recruiting days. At least for the 04-05 girls we have the same thing as all three coaches are college coaches as well.

They delayed a couple of the earlier games to squeegee and sand and do what they can to make them better. It’s just what it is. South Carolina doesn’t have a central location (like Georgia) that is all turf so just glad they got in. If it hadn’t rained Sunday morning the fields would have been great as they had plenty of grass in most. It remainder a lot of adults of our old playing days as we use to play like that a lot. We were there for the 08 Boys and 06 Girls. Talking to Thad Miller who heads SC Odp he did say their girls program has been suffering and they lost a lot of players the last few years. Seems a lot of the Ecnl S Carolina players are not coming back to odp due to various reasons (club not promoting it, too much travel already, not competitive enough). Didnt realize we had any 09s make the trip and play 9v9. That seems like a lot of extra for U12s depending on club commitments already.

The fields were a disaster...full of standing water and just one big mud pit. The 08 girls team played really well and easily beat SC. The 11am game was 7-0 (or around there) and the 3pm game was a 10-0 blowout. The 08 team is pretty talented and it was definitely not an evenly matched game. We did feel bad for the SC keeper, she was under constant pressure and soaking wet from diving into giant mud puddles for saves. She played as well as she could given the circumstances and never complained once. Her whole uniform and face was covered in mud.

Agreed it is not their fault and because of the travel it was hard to cancel, I would have thought that SC ODP had at least access to a couple of turf fields somewhere near Columbia that they could use. As for trouble with SC ODP we had heard the same thing. One of the coaches last year said that they told him they would love for him to coach a team but he needed to go and recruit it because they didnt have enough kids for the age group.

Considering the drive, would have liked for the game to be the full time communicated... we were cut short 5 minutes each half. Coach(es) either didn’t notice, care, or we were misinformed.

The 2 06G games were 2-6 and 0-5 losses to SC from what I understand. I'll be honest, its surprising. Our 06G team lost to the SC ODP team 0-1 or 0-2 last Winter at the Sub-Regional. Either they added some more ECNL players or something I'd guess.

5pm game for 06b were 40 min halves. This is what we normally play but the ODP documentation indicated it would be 45 min halves for this age group. Refs were pretty good for our game.
Both 06b GA teams won their games: 5-0 and I think the second one was 3-1.
Lower field was a complete mud pit. Thankful we didn’t play on that one. Felt bad watching the kids who did have to. One of the worst fields I’ve seen.
Agree with the earlier post about a lot of driving for just one game though.

I will echo that the fields were terrible. We are still trying to get the South Carolina mud stains out of the white jersey.
Knowing the game was a friendly, it kept my expectations low. So, overall the experience was good. My daughter was happy to get out there and get a game in with her teammates since she had never played with most of them before, other than training sessions.
Both GA '07G teams won rather easily...3-1 & 4-0. We were initially communicated that the games would be 45 halves, but the games were actually 35 minute halves. Our team was told the proposal was actually to play 25 minute halves due to field conditions, but the GA coaches refused that proposal (not sure how true).

Well the NC event in January is canceled which isn’t shocking considering the Covid issues. Here’s hoping the vaccine works!
Here’s some info we got from our ODP coach today.
NC Sub-regional event: January 9-10 is CANCELLED This is a real blessing in disguise as it opens up opportunities for more and also prepare better for the next event Recommend using this weekend for training of age groups – TBD TN Sub-regional event: January 16-18; MLK, Jr. Holiday weekend 2004 to 2010 All age groups should be planning for least 2 teams each (likely 3 or 4 teams at certain ages and even ALL players possible if available to attend…finalizing this info to ensure proper competition levels are aligned of course) Expect to have teams “stacked” (not balanced); in similar format as the SC friendlies UPDATES and DEVELOPMENTS below: Feb 20-21 Florida Regional Invitational: 2007 – 09 age groups in Auburndale, FL (located between Orlando and Tampa) Both boys and girls Participating: Florida ODP, Georgia ODP, Orlando City FC Academy, Atlanta United Academy (and likely Inter Miami FC Academy) Top two teams likely in tiered groups Expect high level competition Feb 20-21 South Carolina return friendlies event: PENDING, backup to the above for teams that do not travel to FL 2004 – 10 age groups Georgia hosting in Atlanta metro area June 11-13 South Region Sub-Regional invitational (Dallas, TX): 2004 – 10 age groups Regional and MLS scouting opportunity 2 games on Saturday, 1 game on Sunday Limiting invites to the top performing ODP programs in South Region: Georgia ODP, Florida ODP, NC ODP, NTX ODP, STX ODP Expect very good competition July 2021; US Youth Soccer South Region Identification & Invitation Camp: UNC Charlotte is currently the leading host candidate location As many of you know, there is a shift from sending teams to sending individuals from states Players will continue to be identified through the state ODP events and invited to attend in Spring 2021

08B at 5:00 won 3-0... could have been 5-1. The advertised 40 minute halves were 35 (which is normal for u13), so based on a previous post maybe everybody played less on purpose with the fields.
Now with the possible FL tournament and SC friendlies on the same weekend in February, so much for reciprocation for everybody that drove to SC by them coming to GA for more friendlies. Would be nice if those are different weekends 🤷♂️

Maybe having both events on 2/20-21 was on purpose, maybe was the only option maybe not. I'm sure other states would have their say. SC was no match for our top team. NC is a mess right now, forget AL, which makes FL and TN the only decent competition within driving distance. As for the dates with all the leagues and tournaments going on with clubs, that was probably a better pick than a weekend or two before or after. Let's hope it happens.

I found it to be somewhat disappointing. Large roster. Very little playing time as a result. Fairly unskilled competition. Better than expected though not great team for our side. Hoping it improves. I like Kostas but time will tell if this change is meaningful.

I like Kostas but time will tell if this change is meaningful. Regarding playing time & roster size, keep in mind this is not the same as Club. From what we have been told, by our coaches and parents who have been here before, typical 11v11 rosters will be 22 players. There will be a different 11 for each half of the game. Playing time this past Sunday was not helped by games being shortened. We were supposed to play 45 minute halves and were shortened to 35. As for the competition, I can only speak to the 2 games I watched. Georgia definitely had better talent in those 2 games. However, I think the playing conditions hurt those 2 SC teams more than the GA teams. The team my daughter played on was definitely better than her club team, so that was a big plus.
