Schedule just came out and I noticed a number of teams are not participating. Anyone know some of the reasons, with it being before High School starts what are the conflicts?

It is hard to take your post seriously when you begin with, "middle of the pandemic."
Are you saying that you personally know teams are monitoring current infection rates and have dropped out of the SCCL tournament or are you saying that after playing the past three months in a pandemic they have all of a sudden decided to care about it?
A better response would have been, I know the Santos team has a prior commitment when they decided to have it that weekend, they are doing X.

For AFU this tournament wasn't 'mandatory' so I think most sat out due to HS tryouts (Not covid).

IMO pandemic timing aside, that this is an PERFECT time to have this tournament. For the most part the regular season is done. Teams get together for a couple weeks, play the tournament then they're done. No having to get together in May for State Cup and they didn't put it during the regular season where there were conflicts (like state cup).
Now the only U15+ teams getting together in May should be the ones trying to make national title runs, which is how it should be. The only beef I have is that it should have been announced in AUGUST if they were even considering it. Mind you, state cup would have been a great idea had GA soccer tried to include (and get the $$$ from) the US Club side of the state. But that's been hashed out.
Our U15G bracket will be very competitive.

My son's team did not have enough interest even though the director and club said it was mandatory. A few of the parents knew it really wasn't (they read this forum), and just put their foot down, so the team didn't have enough to play. There was no point. His team was a bottom tier team and it seemed that most of the other bottom to mid teams weren't playing in it either, so his team would have been stuck playing all the top teams in P1-P3 and would have lost every game most likely.
I think it needs to not be MLK weekend if they are going to continue it in January for older teams. A lot of players play futsal in the winter and MLK weekend is always the weekend of regionals. I have no doubt the powers that be in SCCL and the clubs probably purposely did this to squash futsal before it takes hold more than it already has.

Not to mention ODP has an event in TN that weekend (if they don’t cancel).
