So to anyone doing ODP this season did anyone get the email from Kosta and Matt saying that if you don’t play for a Ga Soccer club you have to pay $35 extra?
Supposedly 75% of our pool is USClub (SCCL/ECNL/NPL) based so GaSoccer isn’t getting enough of a cut and want more money out of their families.
To anyone who did ODP and ECNL in years past did they make you pay this too??

We got hit with that one last year. ☹️🤬 I asked and was told it goes to US Soccer. Not sure if that’s true...🤷🏻♂️

The $35 registration fee goes to US Youth Soccer as I understand it for insurance because US Club does not cover the player who gets hurt at ODP.

Pretty hard to call a $35 insurance premium 'pay to play.'

Yeah except it’s not for insurance, USSoccer already covers that for both USYS and USClub. Everyone I’ve talked to, including a current Ga Soccer Board Member and an administrator for Region 3 have all said it’s not for insurance. It’s a nickel and dime expense to point out the loss of income to Ga Soccer. I also confirmed with a friend from South Carolina playing ECRL that they don’t have to pay it either, or it’s not worded as a USClub player fee.
Who really knows it’s just another sign of politics still running ODP.

Tell me it's $195 a month, or $595 a year, or a per training session fee, or there is a collection for coaching gifts. But $35 is laughable. Not arguing any other point about ODP, many are valid, only the assertion that $35 counts as pay to play.

That’s $175...

Then when we made the team we paid $300 (maybe $350, I cannot remember). Then every time we are rostered we get to pay again. The SC friendlies were $35. The event in TN this coming weekend is $175 (NC was supposed to be $175 as well).

We already paid to be in the SCCL Cup so it made it easy to decide to mark ourselves unavailable for next weekend. Now that we know the Feb event will be $175 ... it gives more time to prepare.

That's.. half?.. of what a player at ODP-level will pay for a private/semi-private training session. This seems like much ado about nothing

Feb FL event canceled for 06 girls.
I was pretty sure that last year either the uniforms and hoodie and such were either part of the $300 or it was all taken care of in October/November. This year it appears it only covers training and maybe a couple game jerseys? Team managers are always having to announce what to wear to practice for the non-returning players. Those orange Gildan shirts are around $4 or less, hoodies probably under $20, and maybe $1 of silk-screen to get GA soccer printed on them? Feels like less bang for buck and less organized this year.
I'll reach out to our club on behalf of the $35.
My kid's become a bit jaded since having been rostered exclusively 2nd team since December. She's vocalized that this is her final year in ODP, she's done. At least the 2nd team was able to score against IAFC 06G Elite on Friday.

And it has not been well organized this year. I would give them a pass because of the Pandemic except it wasn’t that well organized last year. We could put the $600-$1000 we spend on ODP into private lessons etc. Driving 2+ hours as well. On a positive note, he has made some friends so it’s not a total waste.

Kid enjoyed every year he played, training at AU was great, Coach was great, Alabama was great...NO COMPLAINTS. Quality training at a cheap price.

I got this email and it begs the obvious question, WTF does this have to do with soccer? Throwing in the proverbial towel? What a waste of time and resources.

There are things I just don’t understand. eSports ranks right up there behind pro wrestling and baseball on my ZFG list..
