I know it's only Feb 1st, but does anyone know what dates the Atlanta clubs are doing tryouts? Normally Academy-level age groups are the week of Memorial Day, with the older kids the week after. But this year Memorial Day falls on the last day of May, so if they follow that same schedule it would mean tryouts for older kids are the 2nd week of June.
I'm asking because there's a camp my daughter is interested in that may conflict with her tryouts. (And yes, who knows if they'll actually have any camps this summer but that's a different discussion . . . .)
Thanks in advance.

Last night I noticed Concorde posted their 2021-2022 tryout dates, June 1st - 7th. Looked up a couple other clubs to see if they'd published dates as well but no luck as of yet.

Thanks for that - it's funny that I always crack on Concorde for their lack of info on their site and just their communications in general and they're one of the first to post the tryout dates. LOL. I checked with our club and they haven't set their tryout dates yet, but I'm assuming they'll be similar to Concorde.

Well here’s the issue with the SCCL/USClub split from GaSoccer, USClub has had a May 1st date for recruitment and tryouts so GaSoccer has moved there’s up to May 1st too.
So we’ll see if anyone moves there’s up or how they’ll rearrange them since there’s more freedom in the dates.

She is talking a bout the AFU '07 team. It is rumored the ECNL team will have the same coach again next year and apparently a lot of the parents aren't happy about it, so quite a few might look to leave. It is doubtful they will do the same as the TH girls this year and select 1 club to all transfer to. My guess is a couple move to UFA, one or two move to Concorde (maybe back to Concorde since some recently came from there), and a couple move to GSA to join their 2 former teammates who moved this past year. If players leave AFU, I'm sure SG & MM will have others they will recruit to be replacements.
I am curious to know if the rumor is true, and where it is coming from. I know SG is coaching the Summer SCCL team for the '07 age group, and that is typically a good indicator at AFU of the ECNL coach the following year. However, he is coaching 3 teams this summer. Can he fit all 3 of them into his schedule for next year?

Unless the 07's all left NTH last year? Most of the 07 TH girls left TH last season to go to Concorde Platinum ECNL. I've never really heard of an official "recruitment" date. I guess what that means is that as of May 1st you're not bound to your current club anymore and can be recruited by anyone, even though you're still playing games for your current club?

In looking through AFU's social media, I do see a SG coaching three teams on the girls side for the summer. Maybe it was a typo in their posting. I'm still looking to see if AFU have posted the ECNL Fall 2021 coaching positions yet. Also, wouldn't that be a bit much coaching 3 high level teams at one time? I do understand that in the spring he would lose one or two but isn't he also a high school coach too...?

I've never really heard of an official "recruitment" date. I guess what that means is that as of May 1st you're not bound to your current club anymore and can be recruited by anyone, even though you're still playing games for your current club? Here are the official SCCL Recruitment rules (if you know of any club that actually follows these, please let me know) In addition to the SCCL League’s stated bylaws, rules and policies the SCCL has introduced a code of ethics to cover the recruiting of players: 1. Coaches are not allowed to contact any players from another SCCL club during regular season play. Contact may only be initiated by a coach during the stated time frame for try-outs. 2. If a player initiates contact with a coach during regular season play, the coach must ask the player if they are committed to another SCCL club. If so, then the player will be asked to inform their current club of their intent to try-out for another club before any further action may be taken. Players may not attend training sessions as a "guest" whilst playing for another SCCL club. The SCCL expectation is that clubs will communicate clearly and honorably through this process. 3. SCCL clubs are not allowed to acquire teams from another club within the SCCL to bring into their own organization. Club mergers do not fall into this category. 4. SCCL clubs will adopt a 12 month non-compete rule where a current SCCL coach is employed by another SCCL club. This means for 12 months the newly appointed coach cannot work in the same age and gender of his/her previous club unless the coach moves residence outside of the current region – or unless there is prior permission from the former club. 5. The official League date for contacting a player to try-out will be May 1st. 6. All SCCL clubs will be allowed to hold try-outs on or after May 1st * These dates are subject to change, and it is recommended that clubs in the same market coordinate their tryout schedules for the good of the game. If an SCCL member is alleged to be in violation of these ethics they will be required to stand before the SCCL Soccer Ethics Committee. The Committee will be made up of at least 3 and no more than 5 club members. Any coach, manager or club official who is found to be guilty of breaching the code of ethics may be suspended from participation in all SCCL activities for the current and subsequent season of play.

I do remember a couple of years ago, some boys at CF getting in trouble with their coaches for going to an ID camp for UFA. This was when two teams where merging into one and some families where trying to hedge their bets by looking to have options. Can't exactly remember the punishment, but there were some repercussions and a spirited debate on this forum about who was right and who was wrong... Good Luck!

Statement here is pretty accurate about potential ramifications. If you have late showcase with your current team that could also be an issue as you may get punished by losing playing time. Most of the clubs have ECNL "ID camps" in early or mid May. As mistergrinch said though, a lot of the top teams are filled by then.

AFU has not posted anything about 2021...coaching assignments or tryout dates. I'm sure their tryout dates will fall in line with other clubs in the area as they always do. As for coaching assignments, I would expect to see them either in April or early May. Most likely they will have an ECNL ID Camp in May, and the assignments will be known prior to that. I agree coaching 3 high level teams would be tough, and that is why I asked if it can fit into a schedule for a coach. If he has the '07, '08 & '09 teams, he would only lose the '07 team in the spring, and yes he is also a HS coach. I'm honestly wondering if people are assuming he will be the coach of the '07 team because he is currently listed as the Summer League coach. Guess we will just need to wait a couple months to find out for certain.

Nothing against these kids if true but AFU players (girls) don't usually have coaches knocking down doors to get to them. Good luck to them. Why aren’t they “knocking down doors” as you say? Is there a skill set these players historically don’t possess? Are they taught a different style of soccer? Poor player development both in skills and IQ? Sounds like your grievance is with the club not the individual players. Just curious as to the context of such a blanket statement. I have no grievance with club or the players. I like some of their players and coaches. However, generally speaking of the big clubs in Atlanta AFU just doesn't have the quality of player or doesn't have many of the players that are highly sought after that's all. As a team they are usually at the bottom of the table in standings which is reflective of not having quality player depth. I can't answer why that is. Perhaps it is the coaching, perhaps it is the area for the pool of players they have access to, or perhaps other clubs reputations have been better and attract players who have a higher ability. I don't know. But I will say I have not seen an AFU top girls team deep in talent in the last 5 years. Below are the standings for their top teams U12 and up. My comments weren't a knock on these kids just a statement that the likelihood of an entire AFU team having a mass exodus and all landing on a top team is unlikely. ECNL U12 (SCCL) 3-5-0 (8th out of 11) U13 - 1-5-2 (9th out of 12 mid season) U14 - 3-5-0 (7th out of 12 mid season) U15 - 3-11-1 (10th out of 12) U16 - 3-9-4 (10th out of 12) U17 - 7-5-0 (3rd out of 12) U18/19 - 1-8-4 (11 out of 12)

At some point the club is going to have to figure out that they need to go further to keep their best players and to acquire players from other clubs. Success begets success. Its tough to have success without having a spark to ignite the success.
There were some good early moves after the handling the appliance salesman situation, but things are starting to stagnate. Perhaps if they can have the first successful tournament (to inject $$$) since then will help to change things around? Getting a few new coaches could help to change that.

LOL, I'm definitely not "in the know", I'm just a parent and I pay a little attention outside of my kid's team. I pay attention to the 06G age group as a whole and we know people with kids on the 04 and 05 AFU ECNL teams as well as a couple clubs local to me in the 05 age group.
If the players aren't developing skills, that's partially a fault of the club IMO. From what I've seen, most girls typically don't go outside and just work and mess around, boys quite often do. Which is why the private training market is so lucrative. Various clubs that care about developing players have programs for the kids to develop better skills from academy ages on. LSA had a pretty good "Friday finishing" skills sessions when we were there (not sure if they still do) and I've heard of a few other clubs around the country that run similar programs. From what I've heard, Auburn Thunder have/had twice daily 30-minute pre-practice skills programs, which sounds like a great idea if you're in East Alabama.

SG results with the 07 team from a w-l record is very underwhelming. Plus it probably doesn’t help that he has no personality. These girls have been losing since ecnl started for their age bracket so not surprised some parents don’t want to continue to pay for a losing team.
