This past January, my son was invited to to participate in the Atlanta United RDS Showcase this coming March. Over the last few weeks, he signed on as an MLS Academy player for another club. Should he still go to the showcase? South Atlanta will be a much shorter drive if ever he gets invited to the AU Academy. Any thoughts?

Does the MLS Academy contract you/your child signed not mention anything about exclusivity or trying out for other clubs?

The RDS Showcase and trying out for Atlanta United is not the same thing. The RDS Showcase has been just an extra event for the kids that they thought did well in RDS to participate in. There might be some kind of evaluation but I wouldn't take it for much more than just a "reward" for doing pretty well in RDS and another thing to play in.
So short answer yes let your kid go play and have some fun in the RDS Showcase if you don't have any conflicts.

I assume when you are saying that he signed on with another MLS Academy that you are talking that he agreed to play for a team that participates in MLS Next. If that assumption is true, RDS has nothing to do with what club you are playing for. It is extra training in addition to your club training.
Now, if that assumption is false, he is signed to play for the New York Red Bulls, I would stay away from RDS.

But as long as you've not signed on with Atlanta United's academy, send your kid to have a ball and play at the AU training grounds. AU also uses this to see kids play against others locally to put them into the scouting pipeline or in the rare occasion invite them to a week or more of trials with the standing AU academy team...

Unfortunately, with COVID, it is not at the training grounds this year. It is at Franklin Gateway.

Thanks everyone for the reply. I received the code of conduct handbook and it does say "...may not participate in any training, games, or trials with other organized soccer team, inclduing other youth clubs, school teams or adult teams." I will ask the academy director about my particular case just to make sure.
