Disturbing-Yes. Surprising-No. The issue of racial equality will sadly, always be an issue until people actually REALLY believe it IS an issue. 🤷🏻♂️

I know so many people and have relatives that don't understand the concept of racism, anti-Semitism and/or discrimination. Because everything is fine in their world, it should be fine in everyone else's.....
Anything that happens bad is the liberals fault, I'd be like no that has nothing to do with politics.....
Even watching the golden globes last night was challenge with them in the room.

I frankly don’t care anymore if they play the National Anthem at sporting events. I honestly would be ok if they just didn’t do it. I would much rather the pregame be about the game itself, than someone’s personal political views you may or may not agree with. The nonverbal gesture (kneeling) is very confusing to the majority of fans.

The nonverbal gesture can be very confusing to probably the majority of people. I agree about not playing the anthem before sporting events. It has gotten kind of weird for soccer anyway because in pro games there are players there from many countries. Who are we playing the anthem for? The players? The fans? Baseball has a lot (not as many) of foreigners and so does hockey.

I hope that I don't offend anyone with this comment. First I want to say that I did not hear or listen to everything that he said, but I read what was in the article. Many of the things he said may be factually correct such as enslavement of other races and being able to buy people in today's world. However I think that what we are trying to do today is understand, not just the atrocities of the past, but how things still are unequal currently.
I have changed my views over the past several years about the difficulties that many people of different races, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic and genders have faced. I never entered the societies that were started to assist me in my field due to being a minority. I felt it was not needed for me. I could do fine without it. I also scoffed and was offended in high school when I heard there were theories that the SAT favored boys especially on the math section. I was offended when Anson Dorrance said that he needed to coach girls differently than boys. HOWEVER, with the maturity and perspective (?wisdom?) I have gained over the years I have learned that just because I can do something against odds does not mean that the system is not weeding out others who are qualified and would make a wonderful contribution to their fields. I also can claim some advantages based on Middle class upbringing, being white and being a tomboy.
What so many people currently lack is empathy. What I mean is the ability to look at things from someone else's perspective. I don't mean that people are not nice or want to help make the world a better place. I think that most people do (certainly most on themis forum seem to). It is very hard though to see things from another's perspective. I have been blessed to have spent many years in an area with different religions and cultures meshing together well. I have friends that are Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Hindu and atheist. I had a Sikh friend in high school (we lost touch). I have Asian, black, hispanic and white friends. I do not know anyone native American currently. I have gay amd lesbian friends and a transgender relative. Through my experiences with these people and my patients I have learned RESPECT for others even when I may not believe what they believe. I am not perfect. I have my preconceived notions that I fight against. I think we all need to try to do a little more of that. And try to help make our country, city, soccer community a better place for everyone even if that means my white privileged daughters lose out on their spots in college.

I either want less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it.
