THis was posted by @messindreams in another thread but deserves a post of its own. www.gsasoccer.com/programs/camps/id-camps/ecnl-id-campJoin top GSA staff, including current and expected ECNL and ECNL Regional League coaches for the coming seasonal year, for this high level, high energy ECNL and ECNL Regional League ID session. This camp is open to any individuals born in 2009 thru 2003 (they do not have to be a member of GSA to participate). This camp is intended as a first step towards identification for the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and Elite Clubs National League - Regional League (ECNL-RL) programs.

First question is who gets in? Will it be current ECNL members (GSA, Concorde, UFA and Atlanta Fire and Nasa for boys) or will other clubs be invited? I could very easily see Roswell and Ambush being included to see if they can prove that they belong in ECNL. Will ECRL include NTH, SSA or any other club that has elected to go the MLS Next/GAL route?
Like every year, times they are a changin'.

What does this mean on the boys side? For example- would GSA have a boys team on the ENCL Club league and an additional team on the ENCL Regional league?

Yes, ECNL Regional League (ECRL) would be the 2nd team at most clubs. Assuming Concorde keeps 2 ECNL spots, it would be the 3rd team at Concorde. Unless SCCL is folded into ECRL, it would push SCCL Club down a notch for the clubs that get into ECRL. That is why I could see Roswell and Ambush getting into ECRL.

So if SCCL turns to be the new Classic/Athena, is ECRL just the new SCCL-C if those teams just bump up? Not to mention teams that may move from NPL to ECRL. The smaller clubs with only 1 or 2 teams per age group I'd think are going to struggle to field ECNL level teams(not just calling them ECNL regardless of the talent level). How can they prove they belong, wouldn't they already have done that? Where does that leave them to field an ECRL team when their 2nd team was SCCL-P3? We know some of the local clubs have 3, 4, or 5 teams per age group, the smaller clubs just can't compete with that across the board for every age group and the talent level generally skews towards the bigger clubs, while maybe a couple of teams at those clubs are good enough to compete.

Ultimately, I guess that it depends on who gets in. If all of SCCL gets into ECRL, then yes, it is the same as SCCL. However, I do not think that will be the case. I think that it will be the current ECNL clubs (GSA, Concorde, UFA and Atlanta Fire and Nasa for boys) plus out of state ECNL clubs like CESA, South Carolina United, Alabama FC, Surf, Chattanooga plus Roswell and maybe Ambush. If that is the case then with SSA putting its second team in DPL, then SCCL Club will pretty much become SCCL-P1 and there will no longer be a mechanism where all of the local clubs play one another.

I agree not every SCCL club will get in but ECRL was created for clubs like Roswell. I'd like to see them make the move and plug the talent pool.

Interesting - sccl top tier will become 3rd teams for many clubs. Sccl will be the loser in this one - sorry.
And if Concorde has 2 ecnl teams, maybe they get 2 regional teams.
I don’t think any clubs should have 2 ecnl teams unless they are trully a separate physical location and operate like another club.

I think that GSA jumped the gun, it showed up on here and then they were told to take it down. I don’t think that it changes what is happening, just the timing of the announcement.

As of right now, it still has ECRL listed in the body of the paragraph.

Think you are right. I think ECNL would have wanted to announce it like they did other regional ones. GSA had this ready to go for their id camp and someone hit the wrong button.....probably a big oopps.

Yep - saw that when I originally posted - but dropped it from the 1st and no proposed coaches, teams etc.- or other club announcements. Of course clubs aren't known for their website prowess. Guess we'll see.

I still think it will be difficult for the Big 5 1/2 to let go of the gravy train that is SCCL. It's like found $$$. They - the board (sans the vacuum) decide who gets in, how much or how little to expand, have a built in program to put their 2nd, 3rd, etc. teams. Plus, they don't have to do anything, but, have US Club run it and send them the preverbal Cheques. I would think it would be a conflict of interest to have US Club now bring in a competing league unless even more $$$ will be changing hands... 🙈🙉🙊

While the page was posted, an email has not been sent out to current players informing the families of the ID Camp. Most likely they posted early by accident and instead of taking it down at this point they just amended it. Also, in the past GSA has run the ID Camp as ECNL/SCCL. So, to me it is telling of what is going to happen.

Plus ECRL will raise the visibility of those players now. The other thing is that programs like Roswell may very well leave SCCL and go into ECRL without them and then they lose players to those clubs so that will decrease their money. Gotta consider that. Roswell, Ambush and others have no reason to be loyal to Big 6

Was the original intention of SCCL to provide higher level competition and better organization while staying Local? Surely the powers that be are one step ahead of these potential changes with ECRL coming to the ATL and are making plans accordingly....

[ First it appears that VPL was an NPL league so not really apples to apples comparison unless it’s the South Atlantic NPL that becomes the ECNL Regional league Second I think it depends entirely on the requirements from the league on which level and how many teams a club can place in the league ... until the league comes and sets that standard it’s all speculation In typical TPDL the pyramid doesn’t lie hierarchy the GA and ECNL require clubs to place their “top team” in the league (Unless you are a girls national championship team that plays at a different branch location but that’s another story entirely) So does ECNL Regional REQUIRE the second level teams from the ECNL clubs and THEN any other teams the league allows? Taking out the GA/ECNL level teams who do you realistically expect to be invited to join an ECNL Regional League? The teams being talked about as potential ECNL Regional teams a HUGE hodge podge of a variety of clubs 1st 2nd 3rd and even 4th levels teams... NPL AFC - SSA - UFA SCCL CLUB AFU AMBUSH BUSA CONCORDE GSA NTH RUSH SANTOS SSA TENNESSEE UFA

I think GPS Charleston went bankrupt and is now Charleston SC? Where did the Charleston SC girls go? Boys for Wake FC, Hoover-Vestavia and Tormenta are in MLS Next now? FootyFan You are going to make me do research aren't you LOL
Or I can just wait until the chips fall where they do. So much soccer left before the end of May.
My only point is ... it is NOT as easy as saying ECNL regional will simply "be" the SCCL Club level.
Too many moving parts in NPL/SCCL Club
AND the DPL announcing it is the "official" second level to GA League.
OraclesFriend .... so so so much UFA grumbling lol
