Looking at the results so far of the ATL UTD Unite Youth Cup for boys U14, U15, and U17 ... Atlanta United academy, NTH-NASA, and UFA really stand out as the programs with the best results across the board. GSA is not in the event which is another strong program in the area.

The majority of people had Concorde as the top program in the state before the season started. It would be interesting to see the average positions in ECNL now.
I’m sure NASA, UFA, and probably GSA would be above them. Interesting they have 4 teams in ECNL/ECRL when they struggle to field a top team that can compete with NASA and UFA.

Interesting post. It’s the first I’ve heard of this tournament. You can find the updated standings on the Atlanta United website under the youth academy tab. They are moving into the semi-final round now ... and for the most part the same few programs seem to be advancing to the semis in each age group. This cup tournament has been going on all season, sort of like a European Champions League format. A great addition to GA soccer thanks to Atl Academy.

Average positions: ECNL: GSA- 3rd NASA- 3rd CONCORDE 1- 4th UFA- 4th CONCORDE 2- 7th SCCL Club: NASA- 3rd GSA- 4th UFA- 4th CONCORDE 3- 5th Keeping in mind that CF2 is playing against other clubs' first teams and CF3 against their 2nd's... IMO that shows they are competitive and will be fine fielding two teams in ECNL and ECRL. Also, considering the average place of the CF 1st teams, it's hard to say they struggle to compete.

Are parents really dumb enough to put their kids on a clubs second team to travel around the region for games, let alone the third and fourth teams?

Are parents really dumb enough to put their kids on a clubs second team to travel around the region for games, let alone the third and fourth teams? GA Soccer's GPL has more travel than ECNL... unless you're playing Rec, you travel around the region. Are you staying at "Club A" to play on their "Elite" team that plays against another club's 5th team or do you move to another environment that's more competitive? If my player wants more, yes, I would play my kid on a 4th team that's in a competitive environment and playing against other club's 2nd/3rd teams (and maybe some 1st) rather than staying on the "Elite" team and playing in a less competitive environment.

soccernotfootball said “ GA Soccer's GPL has more travel than ECNL.” having done NPL and GPL that’s a stretch...but the rest of your argument is valid.

GPL: Gainesville, Athens, Augusta, Rome, Carrollton, Savannah... anywhere from 1-1/2 to 3 hours each "away" game from metro-Atlanta. ECNL: all metro-Atlanta games expect for AL, Chatt., TN, and FC Alliance. Those games are groups so you have 2 weekends of travel. IMO, once they took Florida out, SE ECNL looks like it has less travel than GPL.

However, I haven’t had to go to all of those places in a season even though theoretically it’s possible. And yes, taking Florida out helped ECNL a bunch. I remember all the posts from disgruntled ECNL parents buying plane tickets and having games canceled mid flight.

Has anyone heard more about any ECNL SE realignment?

The rest was metro ATL. Haven’t seen anything on the realignment.

Goal differential also tells a story at the Unite Cup.
NTH-NASA is +19 at U14, +11 at U15, and +25 at U17. ATL UTD is +16 at U14, +14 at U15, and +6 at U17.
Plus NASA and ATL were in the same group, so they had to play each other already.

I’m hearing a lot about the big clubs, but let’s show some love to AFC Lightning. Only one team in the tournament but reigning at the top of group stage.

Anyone know which field is #3 @atlanta United Training grounds and can you at least view field 3 from the street or next door? If not no worries. It would be great if they had someone do video. Oh well.

Stadium Field. Can only be seen from the apartments next door. Getting harder to see the field with everything growing in. Bummer on field 3, should be field 5 so people can watch.
Good luck to the teams playing... NASA and who?

Sorry not sure for the U17 range? We have been fortunate enough not to pay anything so far 😃

NASA U14 ECNL beat SSA MLSNext 2-0. NASA advances to the finals against either Atlanta United or UFA.

Anyone know what the entry fee was for the Unite Cup? I don't believe there was an entry fee. I believe it was put on by AU as a community outreach plan to ensure many of the top teams around town get to play each other in some format without any of the alphabet leagues getting in the way. I think they should change it to the Atlanta City Cup. No league affiliation, just the top teams from all the alphabet leagues coming together to just play for bragging rights...

Name: Atlanta City Cup (Girls Edition, patent pending 🙂)
Ages: U14, U15, U16, U17
Period: Sept. to Feb.
Format: Home & Away
Clubs: ECNL + GAL + Maybe NL clubs(one team per club, sorry CF)
Playoffs: Top 4 teams, single elimination(Memorial Day weekend)
Awards: Winner's Trophy, MVP, Golden Boot, Golden Glove
Would be a great way to close out the season with great games, scouts and of course bragging rights. I welcome your ideas on tweaking this...

Given the local club overall results at last weekends GAL Showcase, I'd say the "Atlanta City Cup" is needed more than ever. Top local teams should be competing head-to-head!
