Surprising, physical Riverwood travels to sensational, goal-scoring-machine Dalton Thursday night in 2nd round 6A boys playoff action. So the question is, will the carpet match the drapes? (Sorry, couldn’t keep that one to myself)

Ha! It was a trick question - despite being the carpet & turf capital of the world and having a state of the art surface at the school, Dalton plays on an off campus raggedy grass field smaller than the 13th green at Augusta National in a 100 year old stadium that gives you the feeling of being at Fenway Park. No track around the pitch so the wild supporters are right on top of the action. Awesome atmosphere! Great game - a lot of Dalton fans went straight to the convenience store afterward to buy lottery tickets because it was certainly lucky of them to escape with the win. Dalton will demolish Tucker and ultimately face Johns Creek at a neutral site for the state championship after getting by Central Gwinnett in the semifinals.

But but but they have a Jumbotron.. haha other than that you’re right. Honestly I never considered the irony of it being a grass field. Hell I think the HS football practice field is nicer than Harmon. Wrong football/futbol as usual I guess. The atmosphere IS awesome. Nothing like it in my county, not even close. That’s what probably distracted me from the turfless field 😉

Yeah, that Jumbotron is huge! During the game they rolled all the dates and championships through the years but somehow left out 2016, when Riverwood ended Dalton’s insane unbeaten streak in the playoffs and went on to win state. Hopefully a rematch next year as Riverwood is mostly sophomores.

Of course, if Central Gwinnett sneaks their Atl Utd players onto the pitch like they did in the regular season when they fell behind, that game could be pretty tight.
