Classic case of not taking advantage of opportunities. ATL should have scored several in first half.

Philly keeper did what a good keeper is supposed to do. Kept them in the game with some big saves.
Honestly AU looked better in the loss than they did all last year so I’m still optimistic about the new manager. I don’t even know the AU players names yet but there are definitely some upgrades.

Incredible intensity in the first half - Atlanta united were gnats on defense - they made it very difficult for philly in the first half -- but Andre Blake was in another league, dude was phenomenal in the first half. Classic game like others mentioned, of not finishing your chances and then just like that your down 1-0. They make a stupid mistake and then down 2-0, and then again you blink and its 3-0. Intensity and effort were there - Jurgen Damm and Moreno have to finish their chances and Damm's crosses were going crosses gone wild.
when they went down 1-0, they started going forward with wreckless abandon - Bello for example wasn't even in the frame during the last 2 goals, he basically plays as an extra attacking player.
Their style of play is very UNC college girls like, every player harasses the opposition on defense and was working extremely hard defensively -- you wondered how it would be possible to maintain that level for 90.
Josef looked like he tweaked his knee before halftime, but he finished the game and looked fine. They were very physical with him, and he really only had one dangerous chance in the first half, other than that, he had trouble finding the ball in the final third.
It did not watch like an MLS game, definitely had concacaf all over it, physical and lots of dirty plays all over the place. 2 players bloodied etc.

The only thing I would add is we really, really, really have to bring someone in to either shore up the back or at the very least work with and coach the backline on the fundamentals of football. If you re-watch the first goal Philly had 3 maybe 4 players who could have scored on that corner. We had bodies in the box but they were just there in spirit and they all let the Philly players get in that set piece. No need to go in on the 2nd and 3rd goal, it was glaringly obvious...

Agree with this - what was Miles Robinson doing on that first goal? I watched some of the game and, despite the result, this team is much better than last year. But not a finished product for sure. I'm a big fan of Santiago Sosa, BTW.

Sosa is the real deal for sure. Would have been great if he could have scored that screamer that hit the crossbar...

yea, I like Sosa at center back vs defensive mid for sure. smooth.
Just watched the highlights - wow, no doubt, we are talking u9 defensive marking on the corner kick. and granted huge mistake for goal 2, but don't understand how your left back isn't even in the picture for the entire goal and never shows up on the camera frame. and again on goal 3, your left back is the deepest man up the field when philly regains possession and pushes forward. I love what he attempts to do in the final third, but I still think his priority needs to be playing left back - I've been more impressed with his defensive abilities more and more, just wish he was back there to defend more often than not.

Josef’s one chance nearly made something out of nothing. It was a really weird angle to shoot with the left foot - perhaps element of surprise or perhaps he isn’t comfortable on the repaired knee. He needs more games but yesterday he was nearly invisible - and being literally ridden by Philly’s big galoot defenders (who not ironically play a lot like Jim Curtin used to play).
Hope JM breaks the seal and starts scoring. It doesn’t look like he and Juergen Damm are in sync yet.
Lastly I though Barco looked better last night. He’s so quick and turns really well. The goalazo last week was a beauty - but I continue to think his main deficien is between the ears.

Wow -- just watched another video of leon flach's game vs Atl last night. Dude was all over the place, winning tackles, playing great balls, he wreaked havoc against atlanta.
and as much as we are gushing over Sosa -- watch the tape, he was involved negatively in all 3 goals.
