With tryout season around the corner I am trying to give my daughter options for her final season. Currently at a good club but feel she won't get a look for the higher team. Anyone know of a team that looking for a potential goalie?

The question is what is your priority. A lot of parents look to get their kid onto a club's top team. If she has the skills to make a top team, she should be able to, especially as a GK. With that said, some clubs' top team don't do well so you have to ask yourself if it's better to be on a top team and rarely win or be on a second team that competes each week and she is challenged?

Depending on your area I know Rush Union Dekalb (old Chiefs Fc) is looking for a GK for their U19 Girls SCCL Club to Club team.
Even with ECRL it should still be high quality of play and a very friendly travel schedule.
Message me and I’ll give you the coaches contact as he’s a friend and they haven’t released the official coaches list yet.

It also means however that the GK may do nothing more than trying to stop shots. Just depends on how you feel the game should be played. Most top teams play out of the back to some degree. Some just kick the ball down the field and hope their team wins the 50:50 ball. Worse, some teams have a field player take the goal kick bc that person has the strongest leg. GK is a really difficult position to play because of the mental challenges; the player has to be able to "wake up" in a split second. Keeping a GK involved in ball distribution and utilizing him/her for that role adds a field player and can really benefit a team but it's usually only the top teams that have players capable of playing that style.

And the games where they get peppered are the ones that they usually also get scored on a bunch. It can be really hard to have a "good game" because that usually looks like performing perfectly in limited opportunities. That position has got to be the toughest one on the field mentally.

Keepers can have a good game and still lose 4-0 . It's a lot worse for the keeper to be on a team that can't score and lose games 1-0, lot of pressure to be the best on the field every game when you know if one gets by you the team lost.

Private message me. Our U18 team is the defending 02/03 US Club National Champs before covid wiped out last year . Our coach coaches two National League teams and its true , NL isn’t the “prestigious “ name ECNL is but I watched first hand as his NL girls beat three local ECNL teams in easy wins this past fall . His girls get as many showcases as ECNL kids but pay about 1/3 the cost of playing ecnl . His keeper graduated so he needs one . In the past three years they are something like 64-2-2. Private message me and I’ll get you in touch with him .
