Idk about that 06 team. Sam is a good guy but UFA doesn’t make it easy to keep players at norcross. 2 left for ECNL 1 to GA Navy 4-5 more trying to make TH DPL/SCCL C teams Maybe more are elsewhere idk As long as I am out here ... Let's separate the TEAM, the COACH, and the PLAYERS from the CLUB Why wouldn't ANY PLAYER leave ANY TEAM for an opportunity to play ECNL? Yup Iggy and the boys at UFA the CLUB did not make it easy on this one team when they decided to give ECRL to all the girls NPL teams ... that ship has sailed and yup it took some players with it ... Like you said ... you don't know but I do This team will be a solid team this year, just like it has been every year, after year, after year for the past 8 years. Ahhh now I know who you are . . . ;-) And I agree with everything you've said about the team and Sam. He lost some good ones but is pulling in some good ones who truly are coming to play for him.

Maybe last year was the last good year for this team. This year that team will probably drop significantly and continue dropping. Good luck to them, with the league dropping all its quality they might do well Ouch ... Maybe my new forum name is @bestintentions

For the first time in my forum history I will lift my mask of anonymity. Haha… I knew it! Remember me asking you if you are on the Georgia Soccer forum? I said, ‘You know way too much about all of the moving parts, and politics.’ You smiled and said, ‘I just know a lot of people.’ Remember the side-eye and grin I gave you after that response? Yeah I wasn’t really believing that answer for a minute.

This has got to be the longest club merger acclimation period in Georgia Soccer history … Norcross merged with UFA in 2014! Surprised that there are still issues. Can they not rotate fields so that programs are club based versus site based?

Girls leaving to go to TH to tryout for DPL with a former coach of the 06 UFA Norcross team was not a real surprise. Ex-Coach has an axe to grind with the club and it is an easy target since he knows the girls. I am sure that when they get there and see the TH-way, it will be a rude awakening to them. Practices aren't "social gatherings". Sam's team will end up more focused and a stronger team in the end. There is definitely talent coming in. All you can do is wish everyone the best and hope it works out for them. In the end, it is still youth soccer in the US and the governing bodies have done everything they can to mess it up for the kids. Boys and girls.

If those girls are going to play for AM, I don't know what to say. I have no idea what they see in him as a person and as a coach. I know he had fewer issues with the 06 team at UFA-N than he did with the 07 and 08 teams, but my lord.

Sam is the modern day Rich Mealey of Norcross. Those who know, KNOW!!!
With that out of the way, Sam is an excellent teacher of the game. Like Renata, I don't know how long he will be at Norcross, he's that good. He's not a yeller, he's honest, insightful and knows just how to get you to play outside your comfort zone to help you realize you can be better in all phases of the game. He has a great relationship with the parents because he knows how to convince them to buy-in and has an openness in how he collaborates with the whole family to further the successes of the player. He is also an excellent private trainer who is not so full of himself he charges an arm and a leg. All his teams always seem to exceed in their results so no surprise there. I'm not as familiar with the teams he's currently coaching, but I would say this, you absolutely cannot go wrong by having him coach your kid. Your kid will definitely be better for that experience and the Soccer Moms can continue "observing" his trainings from the sidelines...😉

I heard that there was such a good turnout for the UFA-Norcross 06 tryout that they not only filled their roster with some really good girls, but also created another team? Can anyone confirm?

We have friends over there and they did have a great turnout. Not sure of a second team, but based on what we heard, they sure had enough for one. They always speak highly of the coach who we also know personally. Coach Sam Helliwell is awesome and if your daughter/son gets an opportunity to play for him, consider it a blessing.

Heard the turnout was more then expected but haven’t heard of anyone staying to play SCCL Premier. Friend of mine picked up a couple at his club who didn’t make the C2C team so could be a half a team out there waiting still.

...The problem with this is that from Pickneyville Park, a player can drive 15 minutes south to Rush Union, 15 minutes north to AFU, 20 minutes west to Roswell, 30 minutes northwest to Ambush, and 25 minutes southeast to GSA Lilburn and get the same level of play..... Don't forget, when players (and coaches) at all of those clubs are making a list of alternate clubs to visit during "the crazy season", Norcross is just as close to them. It looks to me that it can cut both ways. As for the UFA Norcross 06G SCCL-C team I know of at least four very good players that they picked up, two of them from the UFA 20/21 ECRL(NPL) team. I think it was either Wednesday, or Thursday that they had about 45 06 girls there for two teams. Also, it looks like Norcross picked up an entire team of 07 girls. If I understand it correctly an entire team of very good 07 players moved there from Rush. I had originally thought they went to Fowler but I was corrected in another thread. Yes, that close proximity cuts both ways. Hearing that makes me think that these rumors about a club location's (or team's, or coach's) complete demise, appear (once again) to be greatly exaggerated. Now I don't deny that Norcross has its challenges. The Internet is a fun, crazy, weird place; many people love drama; and many people have no hesitation about saying the sky is falling, . . . . or a particular club is bleeding. So take statements like that with a large grain of salt. I love forums like Georgia Soccer Forum because they are effective crowd-sourced intelligence networks. Please don't shut it down.

Where did you hear about them coming from Rush? That would surprise me given the lack of 07 players at both Rush locations. I heard that they will have a team, but don't know where the players came from to replace the ones that were lost.

No worries at all - we were one of those that left but I've been out of town since tryouts ended and have not been in touch with former teammates' parents who stayed at UFA-N. I should see a few of them this week and will find out. I'm glad they have a team and hope they do well this year.

Maybe last year was the last good year for this team. This year that team will probably drop significantly and continue dropping. Good luck to them, with the league dropping all its quality they might do well Green Monkey, is that you? Only 2 posts from this "sweeperstopper" (aka Green Monkey) and making comments here... that is very suspect. Is this your transition to a new name? LOL

So either you know me and this is funny because clearly I am NOT sweeperstopper. Or you don't know me and wow ... THAT is a WILD and CRAZY idea (said in my best Steve Martin impersonation - look I even indicated how OLD I am with THAT reference). Another likely scenario is "sweeperstopper" created an account to ask about the team. Didn't like the answers they received. Choose not to attend the tryout opportunity they asked about and have moved on with their lives. As I said my only disappointment is I took time to answer his/her/their question about "heard the team was folding" and when I added credibility on HOW/WHY I knew first hand about the team ... sweeperstopper responded with the personal disparaging remark about 17 young ladies age 14-15 years old that "they will drop significantly and continue dropping" The mention of me needing a new forum name was me saying "Damn .. I gave up my forum anonymity behind my cool greenmonkey name so some random 2 post wonder could insult my kids team?!!" Oooo now I want my new forum name to be @youdontknowme The forum is IT IS WHAT IT IS Just enjoy it for all its rants AND raves. M.

We know a few of them who are new to UFA and they're great kids and players.
