Green Monkey, is that you? Only 2 posts from this "sweeperstopper" (aka Green Monkey) and making comments here... that is very suspect. Is this your transition to a new name? LOL soccerlegacy ?!? I am not even sure what you are asking but if I understand correctly you think I am BOTH sweeperstopper AND greenmonkey. So either you know me and this is funny because clearly I am NOT sweeperstopper. Or you don't know me and wow ... THAT is a WILD and CRAZY idea (said in my best Steve Martin impersonation - look I even indicated how OLD I am with THAT reference). Another likely scenario is "sweeperstopper" created an account to ask about the team. Didn't like the answers they received. Choose not to attend the tryout opportunity they asked about and have moved on with their lives. As I said my only disappointment is I took time to answer his/her/their question about "heard the team was folding" and when I added credibility on HOW/WHY I knew first hand about the team ... sweeperstopper responded with the personal disparaging remark about 17 young ladies age 14-15 years old that "they will drop significantly and continue dropping" The mention of me needing a new forum name was me saying "Damn .. I gave up my forum anonymity behind my cool greenmonkey name so some random 2 post wonder could insult my kids team?!!" Oooo now I want my new forum name to be @youdontknowme The forum is IT IS WHAT IT IS Just enjoy it for all its rants AND raves. M. I was just playing around because you said you were changing your name due to loss of anonymity, and since you had posted on here earlier, I thought I'd pretend you were a new poster named "sweeperstopper" since they only had 2 posts so far. I guess it was lost on translation and not every attempt at a joke is a winner... I'm strong enough to admit when it's a "fail" at humor. FWIW, this had nothing to do with sweeperstopper or any of the 2 previous posts they had. Actually, long ago I think we might have had kids on the same team, but it was years ago and I I never did confirm who you truly are. Anyways, I enjoy your posts and think we see alot in come, so keep posting, whatever your forum name becomes!

Thank you for the responses, I didn’t mean to come off like that. We were informed about the changes sccl had and we had no idea all that was happening. We were also warned about norcross location not giving the girls side attention and worried about growth beyond sccl. I’m glad that team turned out good, best of luck! We went with ecrl

I heard that there was such a good turnout for the UFA-Norcross 06 tryout that they not only filled their roster with some really good girls, but also created another team? Can anyone confirm? We have friends over there and they did have a great turnout. Not sure of a second team, but based on what we heard, they sure had enough for one. They always speak highly of the coach who we also know personally. Coach Sam Helliwell is awesome and if your daughter/son gets an opportunity to play for him, consider it a blessing. I think the plan is for the second team is going to be an 05/06 combine? Not my monkeys not my circus LOL But yes the turnout was exciting to say the least. Best of Luck to everyone this season. M.

We went with ecrl Interesting that you brought up growth potential. Sam in his first year has had a couple of girls promoted to ECNL. Several of the girls on his new team turned down multiple ECRL offers from several of the clubs due to coaching. Lots of questionable coaching talent in the ECRL local teams. How will it be better than the DPL teams that some of them were “promoted” from (UFA-Forsyth)? Team playing style will also impact the young ladies development. From what I have heard, Sam’s teams build from the back. Developing passing skills and positioning. Too many of the other coaches just try to go over the top.. Kickball at its finest. They may win games because they have one fast person, but the rest of the team doesn’t get a chance to develop. I hope you and your daughter have a good experience at the club you chose. Everyone has to make a choice.

Did they get a new 05 team? If so I am happy for them. I am interested because I am always looking to identify the best coaches. I have one that has only a couple years left but another that has a long time. Coaches move clubs, locations and age levels so I just hope that she will always have an option to play for good coaches. I will try to see these girls play some time this year if possible.

QQ: Does she not care to stay with friends that she has made at a club/team or does she only care about finding the right coach?

QQ: Does she not care to stay with friends that she has made at a club/team or does she only care about finding the right coach? We live far from most clubs so none of those kids are school friends. She was at the same club for 3 years (not including rec). She was a little sad to leave her friends when we left but the coach situation was untenable and she made the decision. This is the first time she will be in a different club. At the younger ages kids move around a ton plus once they go from pool play to set teams friends get split up anyway. Teams break apart as well for other reasons. She makes friends easily and knows that people move. Her older sibling played at the same club for 4 years and by the 4th year there were only 2 players that she played with the first year. She understands how things work. She is an active participant in choosing her club. We looked at several options for this year. The driving distance matters too so that plays a role but is not our sole consideration. We will drive for a good coach. One thing that I have learned in my time is that the coach can build the love of the game and the confidence or they can kill the love of the game and the confidence (not necessarily at the same time). I care about coaches more than clubs and leagues. It may sound like we have moved a lot but really we have not...yet. we have plenty of friends who have moved 4 or more times throughout their club careers. For me it is all about the fit. She wants to be the best that she can be.

I think mergers only benefit if there is close geographical proximity and if the timing is right. Rotating fields also helps. Assuming coaching across clubs is the same the advantages are access to higher level leagues and improved player pools. For example, GSA merger with Dacula in retrospect was a win/ win primarily because of timing (Boys ECNL and DA ending), nearby locations, and Dacula’s need for an improved player pyramid. I’m a little surprised Norcross is still having issues after bringing in Jason Smith. High profile Director with years of experience. He was suppose to fix this …? In the last two years they lost two high profile and well liked coaches in Sergio and Renata. Hard to replace those people. Sergio took the teams with him. Renata did not do that (and stayed within UFA) but she WAS the WHOLE GIRLS ACADEMY program. She coached all of the academy teams. The coaches he brought in to replace Renata are well liked from other clubs and may build it more. They need two teams at each age group in academy IMO. If they can do that again it will help. Don’t count on him

Where did you hear about them coming from Rush? That would surprise me given the lack of 07 players at both Rush locations. I heard that they will have a team, but don't know where the players came from to replace the ones that were lost. DunwoodySoccerDad , if you don’t know about it then I’m wrong, and guilty of spreading misinformation. I’ll try to find out the straight scoop. Very very late to this thread. When I saw Norcross was bleeding I had to click! I'm a TM there. They do have an 07 team and it seems to be pretty big. Coach is Busta former DDY coach and currently works with ATLUTD. 15-20 girls show up to practice consistently so that's a good sign. Busta also coaches U19G. Believe she may be the academy girls director. Definitely think the idea that we are bleeding is an exaggeration. Struggling, yes. I think w/ Sam and Busta we're on the right track. Give us this season LOL hopefully we'll show the world! Keep eyes on 06, 07, 03 teams. Don't think we have an 05 team, unfortunately.

As a former parent of the UFA 05 team ( we went to All/In with his 03’s) I’ll say this : Sam will be good for them wish him well .
When we were at AFU then Norcross , I never understood why they didn’t merge . Of course egos snd politics get into the way .
Just like when we went to All-In, I’m Wondering if they , LSA, and Alliance would merge and come up with a brand new club name . There are many ecnl players playing right now in Atlanta from the Jackson county and Gainesville area , that if LSA , Alliance ( one of GSA’s best 05 girls used to play for Alliance and two TH GAL Players are from Here ) and All-In merged , you’d have enough talent on the extreme northeast metro area talent from these teams to easily support an ecnl team at each age group , or have an NL team at top with a GPL as second teammate. We know kids from Oconee driving 1 1/2 hours for ecnl.
And field space is excellent . The Alliance club doesn’t owe a dime for fields , and they keep building soccer fields all over . Four turf fields just for a HS and one middle school is Available plus the grass fields that keep going up. All -In has added extra turf . LSA has Allen Creek . So a three merger between LSA, All-In and Alliance and maybe even Athens United would make a powerhouse out this way from Athens to Gainesville down to Buford -Sugar Hill. Would stack up against any : more turf fields just in Jackson county either built or in the way . My younger daughter’s middle school already has turf and two more soccer fields being built right next to the school. Plus all HS , park centers allow their fields for soccer use . Go to Allen Creek. Many fields .
It hurt Norcross when Renata left. My daughter was torn because she liked Renata. In the end she chose Sergio because he’s win two national title plus I think the vote was 12-15 to follow them . Our decision was the right one. He’s the best coach I’ve seen.
And we had his 03’s we got to scrimmage some . To the reference about who signed off that 03 team , Another kid accepted at Columbus State.
In the end I hope AFU and Norcross could merge . But I’ll say this : it’s much it deeper than just that there’s so many clubs close by. Norcross is landlocked . Nowhere to build homes to attract the younger couples with young kids . Not enough kids in the immediate area. Could merge with AFU or something and offer ECNl at one location , ECRL at the other location , then keep rotating levels down .
I learned first hand how good a coach Sergio is. Yes , I’m sure GSA ecnl 05 “maybe “ had a couple players missing but so did we and I’m Certain GSA ecnl had many more practices since January than we did . We lost 2-0 . So I think by end of year we will be top notch .
But I feel an AFU /Norcross merger could help both clubs . Especially if they had Renata back. Allowing Sergio to get away hurt. And knowing first hand how it went down one nan forced him out after giving 14 years to the club .
Good luck to all Norcross/AFU teams playing this weekend .

I'm glad to hear some enthusiasm for the Norcross girls from a parent there. We just left there after 3 years. My daughter's team trained with Busta some this past year and really liked her. I'm hoping for good things for her 07's, we still have several friends on that team, which really struggled this past season. Sam is great and his 06's should be at the top of the standings (sorry, can't say "table") in SCCL-C this year. I do worry about the future for the girls' program there. Although we're now at a rival club, I hope it can survive and thrive. Best of luck to you and your players . . . .
