yall know where I'm going with this.....
It's part of my agenda.....
Damian Lillard -- 2 star prospect out of high school and was not heavily recruited, plays at Weber State. scrawny 6 ft and 165lbs
scores 55 last night in a double OT loss, and hits 12 3 pointers for an NBA playoff record. 6x NBA all star and easily a top 20 player in the league.
Damian Lillard's happen all the time in the NBA -- relatively unknown kid in high school, grows up and matures to be one of the best basketball players on the planet.
doesn't happen in US Soccer, can't happen in US Soccer, NOT ALLOWED TO HAPPEN IN US SOCCER.

So true I know kids that keep getting stuck on second teams at big clubs and the top teams keep picking up kids cut from other top teams to fill their rosters. As we have said here many times that the best players know each other and the parents and coaches know the best players...well that may be true but there are still diamonds in the rough out there if they will just LOOK! Some of these scratch and claw to improve and they are MOTIVATED which many of the top players are not. They just expect to get on top teams because they always have and many slack off and end up not as good as the ones who have been and continue to be overlooked!

Is it really true that this doesn't happen in soccer? If you take the example you put up of Lillard. Weber State University is a Division I basketball school. Not one of the premier basketball programs in the country but a Division I program. Only the top less than 2% of high school basketball players go on to play Division I basketball in the US. So right there he has already been classified as an elite player, maybe not the status he is now but came out of high school in a very small category of players. But let's act like he wasn't seen as an elite player coming out of high school for this debate. Are we really saying that the pro soccer players don't have the same experience? Comparing MLS "stars" because they are probably the most comparable system to look at because other countries' soccer models are so drastically different from US basketball where the path to pro is typically college. Here are a couple players doing a 2 minute search on google where you could make a direct comparison to Lillard's experience in my opinion. Chris Wondolowski - Chico State (D2), Walter Zimmerman - Furman, Matt Turner - Fairfield University, Darlington Nagbe - Akron (Akron has produced several top pros), Clint Dempsey - Furman. There are many others that seem to be comparable.
