I am hearing that CF Platinum team is imploding. Is there truth to this? I am aware of 2 that left mid-season to go back to Tophat (one of whom was injured). I am aware of one that is going to UFA. This does not seem to be "imploding" however there are two girls that apparently made the team that were playing lower levels last year (one of whom was turned down at her own club and another for "top" league teams).
Seems like A LOT of movement again this year. The silly season as FG calls it.

As we have stated time and time again, most of the time you have to leave your own club in order to move up because once you are identified as a 2nd or 3rd team player, it is difficult to move up at your own club. I am surprised that you would engage in being critical of a club for taking a good player from a lower team at another club. Clubs should be applauded for judging a player on her merits instead of what level she plays at.

It is just that they rarely do. I cannot remember CF 05 girls top team taking a player from a lower team in the last 4 or 5 years. One of the girls they took is a good player and a good kid and she is not nor ever has been a second team player. I am genuinely happy for her. The other player is a different story. I am not being critical of them taking players that were not playing at the highest level. I am just asking whether this rumor is true. Taking a player that was rejected by two other clubs is not Concorde's usual approach. It is not criticism. It is a question. I genuinely hope the best for all teams in the area. |

I would not have thought that about most teams, but Concorde usually does not take anything but kids that are total studs. I have never heard of them taking anything but the starters from other top clubs top teams. I know both of the girls that are rumored to have made the team. One is an athletic beast. Wonderful kid. She is not a second team player. The other is a huge surprise to me on many, many levels. The question was supposed to be direct but the written word is easier to misconstrue than in person. To me Concorde taking anyone but starters of awesome teams is shocking! Whether they are second team players or kids from top teams at smaller clubs or kids cut from other clubs, that has historically not been who Concorde is. They have had their pick of the best of the best. This is why I asked. The imploding term was actually used by others in talking about the team and I quoted them. I am all for second team players getting looks at top teams. I really think promotion from within is the best policy. I do find it shocking for certain clubs to have trouble filling their teams with studs. We have had discussions on the 2 ECNL and 2 ECRL teams and their depth so it should not seem strange that someone would question what is going on when rumors are rampant about major issues with a certain team at Concorde As an analogy what if Ivy League schools had trouble filling up their classes. Usually they have the cream of the crop. |

for the 5th year in a row, about half the new kids are from outside the club, about half the kids are being promoted within for my kid’s team. Very consistent, not just shiny new toys. I don’t know, based on the forum’s conventional wisdom this team exists in a vortex

I don't want to get into a major debate so I won't state who does this more IMO. We are expecting 4 or 5 new players all from within the club. The outside players were told yesterday to look elsewhere and one that came to a training session in April was told the same thing. |

No, not CF 05 girls. I’m just reacting to the “you have to move clubs to move up” that I see constantly on here. Not been true for at least one team, year in and year out.
Now are things already determined before tryouts even happen? Possibly, or even probably, or even most definitely. But that includes promotion from within.

You are backtracking now and trying to pass off your intent as an “academic” question... but your jealousy in this original post is very evident. We all see what you did. Sounds Frigid. 🙄 I am absolutely not jealous. You don't know me or anything about my kid. You insult my kid as never being able to make a top team yet you don't know that at all. One of those girls who made the team is a friend and I have actually only ever encouraged and helped her. As an "academic type" person who loves to try to understand society it was an academic question. I would honestly love to study the youth soccer world to see what is true and what is rumor and to follow kids who have worked their way up, those who get dropped and those who quit. Having been in this a long time I am often amazed at the talent that quits which is a shame for us all. You can think what you want but we are happy where we are and answering plenty of recruiting emails from D1 and D3 schools so whatever... |
