We have been at SSA for 11 years now. Both my daughters took the offers from SSA to do the Concorde/SSA “alliance.” It was presented to us by Simon as a “pathway for our players”- well fast forward to now and we all know that alliance is gone. So my 04 daughter decided to come back to SSA and was offered a spot on the GAL team. AFTER the 3rd day of tryouts - when all top level teams are full- especially bc of the combine age groups for 03/04 this year- I was informed that my daughter was blackballed from SSA because her sister stayed w Concorde. My daughter tried to talk to him while balling crying after finding out she was blackballed from the club and Simon told her to step away. The fact that he waited until after tryouts were over before I could do anything about it is sickening!! I have had over 300 calls texts and messages about this man and his nastiness!! Beware is all I have to say! I just pray that one day he wakes up and really allows this sport to be about the child!

So sorry to hear this! Horrible for your child. I bet that there will be another club that will be happy to take her and she can get the best revenge...doing well!

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. To offer a spot and then yank it away after tryouts for something so petty is beyond disgusting. I hope your daughter finds a home and that maybe there is someone (director, coach) that will step up and offer her a spot somewhere. Because as you stated, it should be about the child, not some asinine allegiance to a club that these people in charge have made in their own minds.

How is someone at one club for 11 years? Sounds like they had a good experience until now. Too bad they could not make it for one more year...

Unbelievable. I don’t say this lightly, but someone needs to be sacked for that.

Unbelievable. I don’t say this lightly, but someone needs to be sacked for that. To me, it is horrible to tell players they are on the team and then change your mind. As an adult in a leadership position (a coach should always be a leader) this is a horrible reflection on the coach, team and club! No integrity at all!

They got an offer but then it was taken back because the sister stayed at Concorde? I seriously doubt 300 messages and phone calls were received about Simon. I am not affiliated with him at all but once again I did find it interesting someone can pop up out of nowhere on the forum with a story about some coach doing them wrong and people are so quick to believe the worst.

You are right-probably 500 messages-300 seems way too low. In all seriousness, I think most people know the truth is somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, it’s the kids who suffer.

It might be harder to believe if we did not know of people that a similar thing happened to them maybe with a different coach or club, but this does happen. 300 is probably an exaggeration but it may be 300 statements (not 300 people). It could have been made by only 15 or 20 people. You know how people get when they are mad. I will also say I know of players who have done this to clubs. I also know of players who have been turned down from a team and lobbied to get a spot anyway (no idea how this happens but I have an acquaintance that got her daughter on Tophat top team this way). My point being there are stories both ways.

I’m really sorry this happened to your daughter. Emotions are high when it comes to our kids. Perhaps you could file a formal grievance with the board. It probably won’t change anything, but neither does posting in a forum.

I know a few other kids a few years ago banished from SSA as well because they decided to move one sibling etc. I don't know whose decision that ultimately was though, coach or director.
I also have on more than one occasion had a director lie to my face about a kid and their status on the team as well.
To me its easy -- talk to the kids in Aug, Oct, Dec, Feb and April -- every kid should know their status. Constant feedback and constructive criticism. Yes, some will say, well it should be obvious based upon x, y, and z. But better safe than sorry, over communicate.

A bigger issue is the coach lack of communication in the club. When they know they are releasing players but don’t let the other coach on the team below know.

Hold up. Don't bring up other coaches or clubs or some reverse circumstance situation on this one. This thread is about the malformed black melanoma on the anus of youth soccer in Atlanta - the flatulent, quivering, obese mass of sickly pink Welsh flesh that is Simon Davey. You are merely some combination of delusional, ignorant, and dishonest if you're in that jack off's corner. Mic drop.

Hitler?! Even I have limits! I simply saw an opportunity to show how easy it is to hide behind anonymity. Don't know the guy or whatever stresses he might be under. You never know. Stinks for that player though, no doubt.

I have only had a few interactions with the guy. I’ll keep my opinion of him to myself b/c it’s irrelevant here, but I hate to see kids get screwed-whomevers fault it is.

Curious, did you have an offer in writing or was it verbal? SSA emailed top team offers the morning after tryout day #1. Anyone who didn't get one right then needed to start considering team 2 - or go tryout days 2 & 3 elsewhere. If they gave you an early offer & you stayed all 3 days of tryouts then got your offer pulled, that's truly awful! We're so tired of the games these clubs play to prey on parents. We know a few kids at a couple different clubs who are stranded without a team bc coaches/directors were not honest from the start. Not cool.
