Okay - so I've heard of three boys that will be joining various local teams if they are not offered a spot with Inter Miami. If I've heard of 3, then there are probably more and at other MLS academies. Has the MLS dropped its homegrown exclusive geographic territory policy or is all this nefarious activity?

That’s interesting-would think they’d need a waiver.

Heck if I know for sure. But is it likely that a family, much less three families, would move from South Florida to Atlanta just to play club soccer here instead of there?

It's none of our business, good luck to them if true.

It's none of our business, good luck to them if true. Actually, dude, it’s absolutely our business! Wake up and stop slamming people. The issue is MLS academy geographic recruitment territory rules. It’s kind of a big deal. Of course nobody cares where a specific kid plays or doesn’t wish them well.

You are correct, there are quite a few former DA level players from the ATL region trying out at Inter-Miami, Charlotte and Orlando. Sadly, no, the homegrown territory has not been removed. Here is how it works, if you are not currently or ever been in the AU academy, you can head to any of these MLS Academies to ply your trade. However, if you're that good and choose to now want to talk $$$ that club will have to make a trade with AU since they still in-fact own your rights based only on Geography. Now if you were or are in the AU Academy, as bogan intimated, you will have to get a letter of release saying you're no longer in the Academy, but what I mentioned regarding their rights to you still apply. Most MLS Academies have rights to players living within a 75 mile circumference of the clubs' location. Oddly, AU owns all of Georgia, but I digress. Now since Geography is what binds you to AU, Geography is also what releases you. Should your parents get a job and move to say Palm Beach or outside the AU territory then a case can be made that you are no longer within their grubby reach. This rule is reminiscing of the FIFA rule about moving to play footy specifically. MLS-Next Rule: Odd is that in the newly formed MLS-Next rule-book, it states “No Club has exclusive territory rights. Clubs may recruit players for participation on Clubs from any geographic region.” but the very next line states clearly "These MLS-Next Rules do not in any way supersede or invalidate any other territorial restrictions to which a Club may be subject."

A few players before covid left and play at IMG. TA picked up the phone and called to arrange a trial.

Its pretty much a policed process. Prob the one they watch out most for.
Good luck to the players.
If I had an AU player (wink, wink) and was cut, we would arrange similar trails with the surrounding MLS clubs.
