Whew. What a WILD RIDE!
I have decided that for parents competitive youth soccer tryouts are a lot like preparing for college
(like REAL college application process not just the can I play soccer in college) LOL
RESEARCH the clubs, the leagues, the coaches = the colleges, the academics, the programs, professors, and majors.
RESEARCH the teams = is the college, academics, program, profs, etc going to be a good fit for my kid
ATTEND ID camps, pre-tryout clinics and trainings, talk to parents and coaches = attend college open houses and campus tours, talk to parents and alumni
TRYOUTS = Stress about standardized tests, grades, gpa, and the dreaded personal statements
FEEDBACK "You were great but ..." = This is like the "wait-list" for college. Would love to have you but we just don't have a spot open ACCEPTANCE or REJECTION LETTERS = Offers made on the spot, phone calls made, or NO.
TUITION PAYMENT DUE = You have five days to accept this offer and pay your club fees.
LIFE LESSONS = Team Tryouts, Coaches to ask for Feedback, Offers to Consider, Face to Face Rejections - Resilience and Grit and Determination Clubs with no response at all - what's up with that?
BOOKSTORE = Uniforms, Cleats, Pre-Season Tournament Fees, Don't forget backpack and warm-ups!
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION = The first day of training with your new team!
I could continue this analogy all the way to GRADUATION
Hope your "Silly Season" was a SUCCESS however that may be defined for you and more importantly your PLAYER!
See you on the sidelines!
