All the games were tight - and the loss involved the Georgia GKs playing really well for the TX team (apparently their GK was injured on Saturday). Good competition, although blazingly hot.

Would agree on the hot thing.....our Saturday game at noon was brutal.

Can anyone give insight into what happens at the Regional event (July in TN, I believe)
Is it training or games? (Or both)
Does it feel like a tryout for the Regional Pool?

Hello ODP families,
As the 2020/21 ODP cycle year has come to a close, we wanted to THANK the players and families that contributed to this highly unusual yet successful season of ODP…
Since making the decision to return to the fields last October coming out of the pandemic shut-down, we all had to rethink everything; from non-conventional tryouts to resetting sessions and events, it would not have been possible without the great efforts of many. In addition to the wonderful support of our ODP families, a huge appreciation also goes out to the age group administrators for their time, commitment, and energy to support the demands of this elite program. The 2020/21 cycle provided us an opportunity to push the reset button on innovation and re-invigorate the long-standing traditions of our state’s ODP in identifying talented players taking the necessary steps towards earning a spot on the South Region’s team and even beyond, reaching the National Squad.
Despite the many challenges, we came together with our players and families to offer an exciting product on the field and more benefits to the program:
The launching of our first ever Pre-ODP age group was beyond successful and provided a standard for the entire region. Our scouting network was introduced and became more important than ever in our staff’s identification process. RICs (Regional Identification Centers) validated the rich talent resource for the quality of soccer all across our great state. Our players had opportunities to participate in more events during this year’s cycle than ever before. We transitioned administratively to better use technology with more done electronically in order to gain a higher level of efficiency. New brands were introduced this year to provide even more value to the program… Veo has been a great asset and will do more (just like we did in Texas where every match for all our age groups and teams was recorded and will be available to all our families). Nike has also become the uniform brand of choice as we move towards a more consistent look and one that connects all the way up to our National teams. It was not just an improvement in quantity; a higher quality with players and families seeking out ODP as a compliment to their club programs. 226 players from Georgia have been identified at events and invited to this year’s South Region Camp; congratulations to those players for sure but the credit also belongs to the depth of the entire player pool of Georgia Soccer ODP! As we always must look ahead, we wish to continue to look at options in adding more value and benefits for the upcoming 2021-22 ODP cycle year to our players and families we represent:
An area where we target for improvement is in the uniforms and planning for each player to have their own kits in a new and more efficient process. Enhancing our coaching curriculum to include the introduction of sports psychology elements. As more top coaches from around the state request to join ODP, we will enhance the resources to our staff ensuring that our styles of play and coaching provide the players the ability to make their own decisions on the field. ODP players also make significant commitments to their respective clubs and our excellent relationships with club leaders provide the shared commitment and mutual support to work together and avoid club conflicts as much as possible. Expanded Regional and Sub-Regional events will provide more options of competition and scouting exposure to our players…including the hosting in Georgia of TWO Sub-Regionals for the first time ever. Georgia ODP will lead the South Region with matches against Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, North Texas, South Carolina, South Texas, and Atlanta United. Additionally, we are also looking at potential international opportunities for more unique experiences. We are also evaluating the introduction of ODP (where we offer options to ODP players that “age out” of the traditional program’s age groups and create scenarios of friendly matches with colleges/universities) Looking forward to even better things ahead for our talented athletes; have a wonderful summer and see you soon!

Can anyone give insight into what happens at the Regional event (July in TN, I believe) Is it training or games? (Or both) Does it feel like a tryout for the Regional Pool? I might be wrong on this but the way someone explained it to me is this is basically the old region pool. To get to Murfreesboro you had to be selected in from the subregionals as an individual player and the state teams are not going to this only the chosen individuals. I am not sure how many are selected across the region or if it is most players. I know several girls were not selected this year at least before the Texas event that were a suprise to me they werent selected. I think a final region team will then be selected from this group to play other regions. Again I may not be understanding it correctly since last year was the first time it was done this way and was a COVID cancellation.

Were there any teams not from GA or TX? When I saw the games listed for our age group, it felt like glorified friendlies that required a flight and hotel room

So glad he decided to hang with friends then play in Dallas and now after that joke of an odp season he’s over it so no more wasted money and time to watch boom ball and benches with 10 players on them for every game.

At least the TN showcase had at four (maybe more?) states represented and felt like a something-regional.
Yeah, stayed home and think we’re all done as well.

There were more states in TN but, TX is bigger than all of those states combined and better competition hands down.
Enjoyable experience, great families. A lot of soccer as well without the stress from either sideline.

I heard it was hot and for those for whom it was first traveling ODP experience it was good.
It seems like they took all payer$$ this year for the state pool, very little selectiveness. Then they separated them into 1st and 2nd teams (which were basically set very early on). 06G had a bit too much of an pro-NTH focus (two of the coaches are former NTH coaches).
We are also done with ODP (next year is the combined girls years anyways). Have heard from many it's their final year of ODP.

We had a good experience early on (several years ago)-now my sons in high school and for us it just isn’t worth it anymore. We are outside Atlanta area so the return on investment just doesn’t appear to be there. I’m happy others have had a great experience-I hope Kostas can make it meaningful.
