I dont think they need to prove themselves daily. Rather I think some on the forum need to give credit to non AU players who are as good but choose to not to pursue that pathway. I saw someone mention AU as a D1 pathway. There are plenty of non AU players who play D1 even as teammates with AU players. I don't think anyone has said they are mutually exclusive. Loads of people including myself have acknowledged that not all the best players are at AU. There are some that never got the call, others have chosen not to go and yet others who have been cut prematurely. I can speak for my UFA club for getting kids into top schools. The issue and topic right now is that while we support and push our kids to be the best, let's just tamp down the visceral hate for the AU players. Last I checked, AU still doesn't have a U5, U7 or even a U10 academy program, so many of these boys were forged elsewhere before they even get a whiff of the AU Training Grounds...

If not, then how do you know that they don’t have to prove themselves daily? Any random day some kid could show up for a trial potentially taking your spot. Coaches constantly on you about improving your performance or you will get cut but you don’t think they have to prove themselves daily? Your son must not be at AUFC to make that statement. I don’t think I have seen one post where someone says AU has all the best players because they do not. All the boys at AU we’re at local clubs before u12 as FutsalGoddess pointed out and are still friends with boys they played with prior to AU. It’s obvious that AU is not the only path to play in college. A good student can go to a regular high school and still get into a D1 college without having to go to Woodward Academy. However, I will say that some of these colleges I see people going to for D1 soccer are not colleges that I would want my son to attend for academic purposes.

They definitely need to prove themselves daily with a revolving door of guest tryouts. When the pro team funds the academy it’s dog eat dog. No comfort by necessity. As it should be at the top. I don’t know where you are seeing people say players outside AU aren’t getting credit, or aren’t good or can’t make D1. Teams don’t earn scholarships - players do. Being in a high level environment improves visibility for sure but ballers don’t remain a secret. If D1 is your goal and within reach, don’t worry about words. Go get it.

I also agree with other posters that no one has said that AU is the only path to D1. I think that there is a lot of hate for AU that is unwarranted. To each their own. There are many paths to D1 and many paths to pro. I believe it was FG who pointed out Jack Gurr took a different path to the pros. Who knows how successful he will be in the long run, but his example still stands.

Am I reading correctly that U16 won after 14 pks in their first game!?!? Looks like all AU teams are out now. 15s and 16s lost in the 2nd round. 17s and 19s lost in the first round.

Pulling for the Sockers... only non-MLS team in it. That would be a great story if they could win it all.

I was told that all teams now revert to the Showcase. The U15s play LAFC Monday at 9am while the 16s play LA Surf at 8am, also on Monday. The U17s play Houston Dynamo at 11am on Tuesday while the 19s play Baltimore Armor at noon, same day...

All correct, but in speaking with folks who witnessed the U16 game there was a whole more going on and the GK should be commended. Apparently, he kept(no pun intended) AU in the game, with save after save. Finished tied 0-0 and went to PKs. The official score was 14-13 but I've heard 3-5 PKs were missed by both teams so more actual PKs were taken. All 11 players on the field at the end of regulation, took at least one pk including the goalies. The AU GK was the same goalie who a few weeks ago scored in a game. Legend has it that he scored the final pk goal for AU and then turns around and stops the game winner. There was pure pandemonium as AU U15s, 17s, 19s, fans, families and onlookers stormed the field to celebrate with the Goalie and the players. BTW due to injury, the GK is actually a U15 playing up with the U16s. I can't remember the rules regarding kids but his initials are NS and yes, for transparency his family and I are good friends...

u15s - final four all mls sides -- looks like philly won semifinal game, and my guess face San Jose in finals. u16s - final four no MLS sides -- as mentioned, most MLS teams do not field a u16 team u17s - 2 mls teams, 2 non-mls teams left u19s - 1 mls team remains, Chicago fire, 2 non-mls teams left
of the 16 final four teams age u15-u19. 7 MLS teams 9 non-mls teams
