I’m wondering what folks thought of the girls region camp that was held in Murfreesboro this past weekend.

What college was the camp held at and how were the accommodations, compared to previous years...?

It was not at a college. Parent had to attend and parents and kids stayed in hotels.

And boys getting underway today. Only surprise thus far for the boys is that there are about twice the number of attendees per age group as was communicated to parents & players by ODP on the pre-camp Zoom meeting. For example, 05s were told there would be 45-50 and there are 102 there, 07s told 65-70, and 140 there. Stretches coaching and scouting eyeballs thin and makes for blah competition.

Sounds like USYS ODP is working just like GA Soccer ODP.

It’s less numbers than if they took entire teams from each of the 11 states, plus an additional team from both Texas & Florida, the way I have heard it was done previously. Since the purpose of the camp is to select an 18 player roster from each age group for South Region teams, that’s still just a lot of players to evaluate in a short time.

The girls had pool play? The boys are all mixed from all the states and separated into teams.

The girls had pool play? The boys are all mixed from all the states and separated into teams. Girls were mixed from all states (other than Florida) and had games in the morning and then pool play for those selected in the evenings everyday except day 1 and day 4. All players who were not selected for pool play had training with their teams in the evenings. Day one all players stayed with their teams for both sessions. Day 4 there was only one session for the last day so it was either the pool play game if selected or game with your team.

That sounds good - maybe the boys will do that too.

I thought on the girls side the competition was very good. Number of really talented girls. Would say was compreble to low to middle tier ECNL teams for the games each morning. Each morning had teams that played and from that they selected pool players. The pool in the 05 age group had probably half of the girls from the morning teams but by Monday cut it down to about 30. I know the 30 that made the Monday pool were really top notch players.

Excuse my ignorance, but once a team of 18 are picked for the south region, guessing they play other region teams? Too lazy to look it up so I'll ask, how many regions are there, when do they play, how much more does it cost to keep playing and what is the ultimate goal? Is there some round-robin, home/away regional tournament that occurs and a winner is picked?

Don’t know scheduling or games or if there will be a National camp with games between region teams. I think they’re working on all that. Maybe something in November. Don’t know costs. At some point in previous years the cost was subsidized. They should release an updated web site soon - it is still showing the 2019/2020 season now.
