9 games is terrible. Why not just schedule 1.5-2x all opponents? 18 games isn't terrible, but 13-14 is ideal.

Anyone else playing Alabama FC this season? Some of our players live pretty far east. Trying to decide if a hotel is the best option...what are your plans? Since it is a single game, we drive out & back the same day...from the Buford area. Of course we have been scheduled in the middle of the day the past couple trips, so it wasn't a big deal.

Play home/away against the other 4 in your division, 8 games. Play each team in the other division once, 5 games. This yields 13 total games, which IMO is the sweet spot for games in a season.

I think 9 is too few, but my kids want to play in college and need the games for development of tactical skills. As a parent in this pandemic I want the games for film highlight reasons as well. But I can see why some want fewer games so that it interferes less with other interests. To each their own.

The clubs are charging the same price whether you play 18 games or 9 games. If there are less games, the clubs should charge less and also let kids who want more games guest play with other teams or clubs.

Exactly - not to mention no spring season for U16 and higher but basically the same cost. U15 seems to at least have some type of training and some games for those 8th graders with fall b-days, depending on your club and league.

We had 9 games in Athena for the one year my kid was in it but no question the costs are higher in SCCL.

Especially for HS aged that are juggling multiple sports, academics and social lives. You are correct, it is all about perspective. My reasons for it being terrible have been mentioned by others, but I will specify myself. 1. The number of games continue to decline, yet the cost either remains the same or keeps increasing. I understand there is still training, but annual tuition pays for referees and local coach travel for league games. By eliminating as many games as they have, the costs should be reduced some for each family. 2. My player wants to play in college, so the more they play the better. More games equals more experience and more video to send to colleges. Additionally, it provides better fitness in preparation for high school tryouts in January. 3. My player wants to play every weekend. She doesn't like having weekends off, so more games are better for her. Thankfully we are an ECNL-R team, so we have 14 games.

Good points, but questions for whomever about the above: 1. Is SCCL cheaper than ECNL, ECRL, GA, DPL, NPL? 2. Are kids playing in SCCL being looked at by colleges? 3. Do kids/parents choose SCCL because it offers more free weekends for other pursuits?

We didn’t choose SCCL. My daughter was placed in SCCL Club at tryouts. She tried out for ECNL and ECNL-R, but those teams were pretty much pre-filled.
She does have colleges looking at her, and I film all her games so that she can make highlights to send to those colleges she’s interested in playing for.
That being said, I agree with all those that say 9 games is too few. Our team has 3 full weekends off and multiple weekends with only one game. I believe we had 13 or 14 last year, which felt like a good number. She loves to play, so we’re hoping she might be able to guest play some with other teams.

I think the dual-sport fall athletes are a strong minority. Some boys play football and some girls and boys do cross country? I doubt you have many GA/ECNL/ECNL-R/DPL players playing 2 sports.

I'm extremely disappointed in some of the SCCL brackets. 8 games for a season being done by the 3rd weekend in October?! It should be 10 games minimum and probably more like 12-14 for older half year teams (U15 and up). Why would anyone want to pay the money they pay to have 8 games and then have to pay extra to make up for it by going to more tournaments. Garbage, and one of my first complaints about SCCL.

It's not just about the money. The players are very disappointed with the lack of games as well and I don't want to hear any more BS excuses about training/game ratios we know about that. It also sends the wrong message when some leagues have double the amount of games and the powers that be can't agree to disagree on anything let alone communicate with their customers.

I find it a little odd that 2 1st teams did not have any keepers and none of the second teams. How do you have an all conference team with no keepers?

I considered leaving a smug twitter comment about this being great, but where’s the 2021-2022 schedule? Then cracked a beer and got over it

Still no ECNL schedules/results posted on app and we’ll be 25% into the season after this weekend. I can almost understand the local Chipotle just offering online orders and pick up, but c’mon man - get your shizat together bizatches!
