even considered to be an option by an adult - coach or parent? I am so completely disgusted right now!!!
Read the big bru-ha on the other forum about incidents at a SSA-NASA game; heard from another friend that players and parents were swearing at her daughter's team on Saturday and yesterday we heard it first hand at our game. A few weeks ago when my kid was an AR, a parent was swearing at her. ENOUGH! How do we correct this behavior because it looks like it's completely getting out of control now!
What kind of psycho low class scum are you that you think it's acceptable to swear at a child on the field - even if that child is a teenage girl or boy playing or refereeing? And most of the time when you hear the parents doing it, you can bet your life the kids on the field are as well. According to our players yesterday, it was also rampant on the field - lots of 'F' words and 'B' words from the other team's players. A referee has to take control of what is happening on the field but the problem starts with the coach and parents allowing players to follow their lead with language and arguments. That 'code of conduct' most clubs have players and parents sign is a farce if this kind of thing is allowed or encouraged.
I'm proud of my daughter's team for not stooping to the level of the little foul mouth thugs we played yesterday. They kept their cool and played the game. I'm proud of our parents who did not engage with the foul mouth thugs on the sidelines yesterday and I'm proud of her coach for reminding our players that they are above this kind of behavior! And most proud of our coach for going over to the other team's coach afterward and telling him his parents and players were swearing and it was up to him to stop it! The other coach seemed shocked and said he'd address it - we doubt that will happen as we've played this particular team for years and it's only gotten worse each year.
In all the years my child has played, we've never ever had a parent on our team that swore at a referee or player. Even our most obnoxious psycho parents have usually been corrected by our team manager or other parents and I have on more than one occasion told a fellow soccer parent to stop yelling at a referee for every call because it makes us look stupid (and now that my kid is a ref, I'm slightly more enlightened and protective of the referees ). I guess either we've been fortunate to choose teams and clubs that don't accept this kind of behavior or it just isn't accepted by anyone on the team and nipped quickly. But I'm still disgusted and shocked at the number of incidents I heard about this weekend where parents were swearing at children on the field.
It has to stop - period!
