which game is more important and a must win -- uswnt or usmnt?
both have to win these games obviously, but the damage could be worse for the uswnt if they lose. lets be honest, can it get any worse anyway for the USMNT....

USMNT brought the B team to Gold Cup so winning Gold Cup is clearly not the priority. It is world cup or bust for USMNT. Not making the world cup from the USMNT would be catastrophic.
USWNT losing in the quarters of the Olympics will signal the end of the era for many of the current players and likely hasten a rebuild with younger players, similar to what the USMNT went through after losing to T&T in world cup qualifying.

Even if the USWNT wins I still think there are several players that will age out prior to 2023. I am a bit surprised that Alex Morgan is struggling to be effective. She is not that old and it has been 15 months since the birth of her daughter. Seems like Press was so dominant in all of the games in the past 2 years even against very strong competition but she doesn't get enough playing time due to Rapinoe (who has also not done very well in this tournament).

Since the Covid lock downs have been in effect, I've noticed that some teams who play without fans in the stands tend to fall short and seem "off" (with the exception of AU). So I wonder if not having any fans in Tokyo to feed off of, is having an effect on the USWNT as opposed to other women's national teams who may be better used to playing without much support in the stands anyway...

Very possible. Plus no family for anyone. Some people deal with that better than others.

Absolutely, some are invoking the memory of their loved ones to push them through... www.nbcnews.com/news/olympics/how-katie-ledecky-turned-page-two-huge-losses-win-olympic-n1275249
