The fairy tail ending is this:
US wins 4-1.
Tata gets shown the door.
Almiron realizes he just isn't cut out for Newcastle and the premier league.
Bocanegra gets canned.
Almiron and Tata rejoin back in the Atl.
Atl wins the next 4 mls cups and they rename the MLS trophy the Tata Cup.
What will happen:
Mexico wins 2-0.

MX seems a bit more persistent getting forward but both teams have wasted chances. We will see if the MLS guys mid season match fitness helps in the second half. Matt Turner continues to come up big.

Great game! US started slow and trailed in every statistical category but kept fighting. As it got later in the game the chances were getting better and better until finally in the 2nd overtime, header goal. I feel like this squad is special simply because their extremely gritty, never give up, and kept working hard.

Yea, grit. Hoppe wasn't spectacular but man, in the OT, the dude was working like the game just started, no idea how he had that level of energy. That's how US will be good, effort, grit and the we will not quit mentality.
Acosta was all over the place, man, he was defending like a freak, distributing, tackling, hell of a game.
Then the big boy robinson with a great header.
but we have to discuss Arriola. oh my goodness. how how how do you miss those shots wide.

Atlanta United better start looking for another left back, because Bello better not be playing in the MLS next season. As mentioned above, I was a little disappointed for sure when he was subbed off. Kid was having a great game.

Funny not one mention of our local HG boy Bello. MX is no easy team to defend against. Agreed, Mexico has some elite attacking talent but Bello more than held his own. That second half & extra time period was about as exciting as you will ever see from a 0-0 (and eventually 1-0 right at the end) game. Both teams were playing balls out, aggressive soccer- fun to watch, and glad the USA came out on top. |

Berhalter has some tough personnel decisions to make for the 2022 World Cup qualifying rounds. The “experimental” squad clearly exceeded expectations winning the Gold Cup while only surrendering one goal throughout the tournament. I have to admit, I like this group a lot. They play like they want it and have something to prove. A hard working group that just keeps coming and appear to get stronger as the game goes on. I am pulling for them!

Interesting that Dike didn’t play. Brian Kleiban called that.. he also predicted we had a chance if they got late in 2nd half with a lead.

They play like they want it and have something to prove. A hard working group that just keeps coming and appear to get stronger as the game goes on. I am pulling for them! I like some of them, but I am not sold on some of the others. I think that we finally have some depth at some key positions though like outside back and center back. I wish that Dike had made more of an impact but I still have hopes for him. Hoppe looked strong but needs some maturity so he can make better decisions. He may end up being awesome for us! Competition for spots can only help us overall especially long term. |

I thought Matt Turner, James Sands, Miles Robinson, Kellyn Acosta, Matthew Hope, and Gyasi Zardes stood out the most. 2 outside backs Bellos and Shaq Moore although not perfect, looked pretty good. Especially Bellos considering the play of the Mexican winger he was going up against.

Had yedlin and dest as wingbacks. I prefer 4 in the back with yedlin and dest in their more natural positions as outside backs. |
