Obviously he is coming from a good MLS club so he will understand the league and the players in the league. To me, it is an extremely difficult situation for the coach to coming mid season with little time between games. Personally, I would have waited until the season was over to hire a new coach but Boca knows best.

This could be good for the Academy kids as Seattle are known for playing their academy players in the first team.

It's a tough spot for a coach, expectations from the start will be win and win in an exciting manner
stability at the head coaching position and front office is critical towards youth development.

This could be good for the Academy kids as Seattle are known for playing their academy players in the first team. You are getting that now with Valentino. Bello has 13 games played with 12 starts, Campbell has 5 games played with 2 starts, Chol has 7 games played and 4 starts, Conway has 7 games played and 2 starts, Morales is currently out on loan, and Wolff has 4 games played with 2 starts.

I get where you are going but I don’t think it’s enough. Wolff should have had more than 2 starts, same as Campbell. And Conway only having 2 starts is ludicrous. Now would be the time to rebuild using young players, in my opinion. Didn’t Seattle just start 5 kids from their academy in a match? All I am saying is maybe he will bring that outlook with him to Atlanta. Seems like other MLS clubs find ways to get some of their academy players in the first team and actually play minutes. I thought they could have just let Valentino finish the season and actually give him a chance.

I think he will do well unless he doesn’t…
It’s his first coaching job-he could be absolutely brilliant or stink it up…

They just added a new designated player, Luiz de Araujo. They have all of the players back from international duty. There are 16 regular season games left and they are 6 points out of the playoffs. The goal is clearly to win and make the playoffs. Conway clearly should be playing any time that Josef needs a break instead of having Cubo play. Campbell is behind better players. Who are you taking out to give him minutes--Robinson, Walkes, Franco? Same thing with Wolff. Who are you taking out to put him in--Sosa, Rossetto, Moreno, Barco?

Will be announced at press conference at 1 pm I do wish him well and hope he's able to revive some confidence in the team and put out a good product for us to be proud of. I know we all long for the days of Tata but that was Tata and that was with a bevy of players many of whom are no longer here. He needs to be the very best version of Pineda he can be. I hope what he's seen and learned in Seattle, coupled with the expectations of the 17s fanbase gives him an idea of what he's walking into. Expectations are high. I hope he has a legitimate 3-5 year plan that the leadership agree to and allow him to implement without impediments to stifle his success. Finally, like some have mentioned, I hope he incorporates more of the young talent in the Academy and on AU2. Seattle is known for pushing their youth into international tourneys and spending stints at sister clubs in Europe and beyond. Not just have the youngsters fill in whilst first team members are out on Olympic and Nat'l Team call-up duties... Vamos ATL!!!

I think the fact that they added a new designated player might mean they are rebuilding. I get the fact that they want to win and make the playoffs but that sounds like the NBA in that a lot of teams can make the playoffs but that doesn’t mean they are real contenders. I would say you could take Walkes out and give Campbell some minutes ( I’m not saying he’s great but if he doesn’t play how will he improve). I’m sorry but Moreno doesn’t impress me that much that he can’t take some time off for Wolff to play. It doesn’t make sense to sign kids and don’t play them while other clubs find ways to do so.

Not just have the youngsters fill in whilst first team members are out on Olympic and Nat'l Team call-up duties... Vamos ATL!!! Promoting some younger players would be good but you can't bring too many up, or the level drops. They need to be mentored by top level players and we don't have enough of those right now. Seattle wins because they are very effective, methodical, results oriented, and sometimes lucky too, but Seattle doesn't necessarily play the type of attractive soccer we've seen here in Atlanta in the past. Much of Tata's success was his ability not only to identify the right type of quality players his team needed, but was also able to attract them in. He was the better side of the front office actually as it turned out. He was also very good in preparing a team for a match. Those were the key elements to his success in winning the MLS Cup and actually playing the attractive style of play that according to FdB "spoiled" us. Not the best coach during game, or the coach to trust and play younger players and that's the one thing I didn't like about him. But if we want that (many young players), then we can't expect miracles with performances and results. We can also go watch AU2 for this much young blood. And second, if or when the younger players mature after many games of frustration to produce high level performances and results they will be sold to Europe, probably before we see another MLS Cup or CL game. Many of us want a better quality product, more Champions League wins and continuous appearances in CL as promised by front office many moons ago and hopefully win it one to qualify for the big one and play against a top European side and get known globally (Daren's words). I'm one of those that pays those AU season ticket fees because they were worth it (now they've gone up as the product has gone down), love high level, attractive soccer with players Josef and players we used to have (Miggy, Nagbe, Carmona etc).

Over/under - will he still be the coach come the start of the 2023 season?
With this current AUFC regime who seems in the win now but we’re giving you nothing but problems mentality I’m taking the under.

I will say yes, he will be here at the beginning of 2023. Atlanta needs some stability and is likely to stick with the new coach to try to gain that stability.

I hope he’s all that and a bag of chips…but he’s an unknown quantity with a questionable front office.

Scariest part of the article: 'With our last hire, it was in the middle of Covid," he said of Heinze, who was coaching at Velez Sarsfield in Argentina. "It was very difficult to have any in-person meetings, and it was essential this time round that we made sure that myself, Carlos, Steve, Arthur met with Gonzalo in person and had that chance to talk not only about the vision for the club, but also the values of the person and to get to know Gonzalo himself." After the de boer debacle, how do you hire a coach without meeting him in person and finding out what he believes in?
