Pretty remarkable career for sure.
Not to be a jerk, but seems odd for her to be guaranteed a roster spot on the next 4 friendlies. Play in one, and have the retirement celebration, and make room for other younger players to have your spot.

Perhaps this is a decision to give PR priority over bringing up a new player and getting them integrated with the team ASAP. Could be that they want, or need the increased streaming revenue and ticket sales of Lloyd saying goodbye at four more games more than quickly moving on with a new player.

I am sure that it has something to do with her guaranteed compensation from US soccer. Contract probably runs through the end of the year and she would forfeit the compensation if she retired early

Great player and great story. If I recall, she was not on the national team in her early 20s and lost a lot of confidence. But then hired a trainer and re-committed herself with the result being a great player and representative of USWNT.

Not only that, she tore her MCL I believe, worked hard to get back into form leading into to the 2015 WWC, including her massive hat trick against Japan in the final.
