Has anyone been able to get an answer from their coach or club as to the reasoning for playing one team twice on the schedule? Just curious.
(I mean we are all grateful for whatever extra games we can get right?)
My guess is that they were trying to get every team to a certain minimum number of games- say, 10- and if a division only had 10 teams, they could only do that by having each team play one opponent twice. Look at it like this:
Team 1 plays Teams 2-10 then plays Team 2 again
Team 2 plays Teams 1 & 3-10 then plays Team 1 again
Team 3 plays Teams 1-2 & 4-10 then plays Team 4 again
Team 4 plays Teams 1-3 & 5-10 then plays Team 3 again
Team 5 plays Teams 1-4 & 6-10 then plays Team 6 again
Team 6 plays Teams 1-5 & 7-10 then plays Team 5 again
Team 7 plays Teams 1-6 & 8-10 then plays Team 8 again
Team 8 plays Teams 1-7 & 9-10 then plays Team 7 again
Team 9 plays Teams 1-8 & 10 then plays Team 10 again
Team 10 plays Teams 1-9 then plays Team 9 again
Actually works out pretty well, though teams that get a tougher team twice obviously have a worse draw than teams that get an easy opponent twice. No other way to really do it though.
