Pretty sure MLB pulled the baseball all star game.
Pretty sure if FIFA puts a WC in Qatar, FIFA won’t pull a game out of ATL over politics.

This would be exciting but of course hard at attend if you don't have the money.
I've wondered why USNT friendly games aren't played in Atlanta. There is one in Cincinnati tomorrow on a week day. I'm from Cincy and would love to go but can't during the week.

yea, we always across over northside by the congress center to avoid the stupid bridge like the plague. the article is interesting and seems to have some agenda. yea the bridge is stupid and a waste of money, yet it's being spun as if we dont' get the world cup, it's because the bridge sucks.
The world cup in 1994 was one of the greatest sporting events i've ever been to!

They’re looking to implement the latest grass tech for the WC.

They’re looking to implement the latest grass tech for the WC. For the WC, won't they just bring in layers of dirt like for monster jam, lay sod and water the crap out of it to get the sod to last for a couple of weeks. I don't see how grass could ever live in the Benz with the amount of sunlight (or lack thereof) that hits a portion of the field through the sphincter.

They will use UV lamps…I’d hate to get that power bill.

snipped about detroit in '94 and then when the world cup refused to do it for the women's world cup. from www.nytimes.com/2014/08/22/sports/soccer/world-cup-has-precedent-of-installing-grass.htmlRogers said FIFA spent about $2 million on the Silverdome project in 1994 and didn’t blink an eye. These days, according to several turf grass experts, converting each artificial turf field to grass for next year’s Women’s World Cup would cost anywhere from $150,000 to $400,000 per field, depending on where the sod is harvested. In fact, it’s really not that big a job anymore. Steve Bush’s company, Bush Turf, needed less than 72 hours this month to lay grass over the artificial turf at Michigan Stadium for a friendly between Manchester United and Real Madrid. The sod arrived in Michigan in a refrigerated truck from a farm in New Jersey, and Bush covered the artificial turf with a landscape fabric before bringing in thickly cut sod and installing it. “You just unroll it onto the field,” he said. The promoter of the game footed the bill. But why pay anywhere from $150,000 to $250,000 to install grass for just one game — again, a preseason friendly — that will be over in 90 minutes? Because the men coming to play on it demanded it.

Because the men coming to play on it demanded it. I attended USA v Switzerland at the silverdome in 94. I remember they used palletized hexagons of turf that were approx a foot thick. The pallets fit together tightly and were heavy enough not to roll up like some other temporary turf installations. They filled any gaps with sand I think. Seems like a decent solution for MBS to copy unless the UV light gimmick actually works. MBS will be a lot nicer with air conditioning. Silverdome was HOT.

What is really going to drive people crazy is when we have first round and semi-final games on pristine grass and then immediately rip it out for the next United game because it isn’t sustainable for the 11 months a year that United and Falcons would play on it.

I'm from Cincy and would love to go but can't during the week. I have had the pleasure of attending 3 WCs, but none in the United States, Mexico or Canada(have they ever hosted). My goal is to take the whole month off and road trip to watch games in all 3 countries if possible. If I can't finagle ALL my connections in soccer to get tickets, I may have to buy one of those ticket packages from 3rd party brokers. Then again, when not in the stadium, I will be joining a few thousands friends and fans and watch in the epicenter of each country/city in the public squares that tend to draw the fun folks anyway. Should be a helluva a summer and I can't wait. I pray the ATL gets a Semi Final at the MBS because then I just know I'll be able to get a seat... ⚽⚽⚽2026 I know we go to 48 teams(still don't know how I feel about 3 team groups) but Europe will now have 16 up from 13, South America gets to send 6 our of 10 teams and we go from 3.5 slots to 6, which works well considering 3 slots will be filled by all 3 host countries...
