www.georgiasoccer.org/referees/grassroots-referee-recert-requirements/Have him start there, he'll take an online certification class, once he completes everything, they'll mail him his badge, which will be good until end of next year and he can reach out to an assignor to start getting some games. Your club usually will have info somewhere on their website or just email them to get whichever assignors contact info you want. (My daughter refs for AFU and Alpharetta if those happen to be close to you, I can put you in touch) Once he's passed the class, look online for a uniform package, I think there is a place or two locally you can pick up from, or just order online. son wants to ref... what is the process and can he start pretty quickly?

son wants to ref... what is the process and can he start pretty quickly? My son just got certified in 2 weeks. You do the 3-4 hour online class, have to attend a 4 hour field based class, then do a 1 hour Zoom. Costs $90 now I think (there had been a $20 discount). After that, assignors can get them on the field. Kit costs another $50 or so. The deal I made with him is that as long as he earns the $140 this season I will cover the startup costs. He's booked to AR 3 games this weekend ($54) It's good money for a kid.

Better register quick too. I believe the last metro Atlanta class being offered is at rysa on Oct 10th. After that it’ll probably be Dec/Jan before they start up in person classes again.

They have started back requiring the on-field class as well in addition to the online class. I am glad because some of the referees that got certified during no on-field part of the class that I work with (teenagers) have very poor flag and AR skills due to not having that on-field training. Some have gotten better, some just ignore the center's constructive comments which basically makes those ARs useless for a center during a game.

Totally agree, I'm glad they brought it back! Like most things, learning in person is preferable to virtual only! I think most people tend to zone out after awhile on virtual and a lot gets missed. www.georgiasoccer.org/referees/grassroots-referee-recert-requirements/Have him start there, he'll take an online certification class, once he completes everything, they'll mail him his badge, which will be good until end of next year and he can reach out to an assignor to start getting some games.
