Something has to be done here. Considering that MLS Next is at the forefront of youth soccer within the American soccer landscape, we must do better. Any thoughts on how this problem an be solved without penalizing the players. I do not know details but bet it’s the parents or folks on the sidelines. Disclaimer, I do not know details, only that MLS next issued a statement. http://instagram.com/p/CUlT7x5LGap

From my understanding it was the players using racial epithets during a u15 match between Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas. Supposedly it was the second time it has happened between the two teams. FC Dallas’s 14s walked off their match also from my understanding. Your post is kinda funny talking about we must do better but you didn’t even know what was going on and why they posted the message. In this case, they do need to penalize the players.

Where do you think that a u15 player would learn this behavior? Either from parents or coaches alike. If it was in fact a player, I would expect some accountability here.

Also @fix the “we must do better” is a reference to society. There is discrimination in all facets of society, especially sports. Watch how you talk to folks here.

I have no idea on earth where a kid would learn how to speak like that, no idea at all. I told you it was a player who used the language but somehow you question if it was in fact a player who used the language. I won’t expect any accountability at all. Nor will I complain about them not doing anything or question how we as a society can do better. But that’s just me.

What you describe may be an incident which promoted MLS next to reiterate the statement. How many other times do you think that such language was used. I have a kid who plays in this league and I know the landscape well. If you don’t expect accountability you are part of the problem.

Wow.. received reports on two incidents within a week among the whole league and age brackets.. yep, the 99% behaving as they should got to do better..🤔. very simple, once the investigation proves guilt, make examples of the guilty parties so others can learn from the isolated situations.. The 1—10% seems to draw the most attention away from the other 90-99% doing right.

Huh? Also, you aren’t too bright to pick up on sarcasm but thank you for explaining to me where kids learn such behaviors. That question was over my head to analyze. If you have a kid who plays in the league and you know the landscape well, why didn’t you know the particulars of the incidents? I don’t sit around pondering dumb hypotheticals such as how many times has such language been used. That’s cool you want to save the world but a lot of people come here for soccer info, not race baiting.

Last words on this topic for me. This is soccer news, coming from MLS Next, a youth soccer league that sets the trend for others. Also this was reported but the truth is that it happens and goes unreported. I’m happy that mls is speaking out on it.

Again… isolated incident(s) which are probably being handled and hopefully, dealt with once guilt is/was proven.. hammer them w/ penalties so to set the example so the 99+% can continue moving peacefully and joyfully

I think with the current landscape, leagues are feeling the heat to come out publicly to reiterate and reinforce obvious stances on societal issues like sexism, racism, abuse, etc. This message from the MLS went out with the NWSL and University of SF article fresh on everyone's minds. I don't think they wanted to be seen as not being on top of things or not doing anything about it. As an FYI - Without wanting to call out any specific child locally, we've had a couple of incidences of racial slurs with some local MLS-Next clubs and it was as you said handled internally. One kid got a month long suspension from the team and another was given a 3 week suspension with one of those suspensions resulting in a kid missing a showcase. Hopefully they've learned from those experiences and I hope it has been a deterrent for others. I still can't for the life of me understand why folks can't just play the game and get away from these idiotic non-sport related acts that do nothing but deter and distract your team from their goals...

Currently I am of the opinion that most of the high school age kids who do this hear it from peers and/or online communities that they hang out in. We have had several bullying incidents in our school and we know these parents well enough to say they would NEVER condone the language or actions of their children. Mob mentality does happen with teenagers.

And here I thought Denver, Colorado was one of the most progressive places in the country. Some of the most racist people I have ever met were progressives and liberals.... It's the dirty little secret the media and libs don't like to talk about... Go check out the racist history of the supposed liberal Utopia of Oregon for an example...

LOL you know you are a joke around here right? People are just too polite to tell you that. I may be as well but at least I post in coherent sentences.... One could actually say I attract you like a moth to a light or flame (which is what I assume you meant in your incoherent post). No matter where I post you are there to type something that makes me laugh.

Happened at an ECNL playoff game i watched during the summer. Referee heard it and issued a red card to the player who used the racial slur. Probably should have greater consequences in the follow-up.
