No surprise most/all the players coming from MLS academies…it’s been that way for a while. I’d be surprised if many/any came from non-MLS academies.

yea, 1 from NCFC - keeper who already turned pro - he's been like 6'5' since we was 12.... 1 from De Anza Force 1 from Barca Academy 1 from Total Futbol Academy
might have missed one - but rest are mls academy players.
apparently nobody besides a keeper from the southeast is good enough to make this team. I find that impossible.

The MNT will continue to decline so long as the marriage between ussf and mls is allowed to exist.

The MNT will continue to decline so long as the marriage between ussf and mls is allowed to exist. I agree in principle - not sure “decline” is the right word. First you have to be good in order to decline. I think it’s a certainty that they’ll remain mediocre for as long as “levels” in the domestic youth and pro game are established via declaration (or paying a fee) rather than via competition. Sure there is plenty of very good competition here but it’s not the same as open competition.

Sure there is plenty of very good competition here but it’s not the same as open competition. I agree but can also see that maybe this is the National team's method of having the "competition" and/or promotion of individual players. In an ideal world the local clubs are partners and feeders into MLS Academies so even though there is a lot of exclusivity in the established leagues that don't always allow the best to play against each other the local market can still pool the best through recommendations to and selections by the pro. clubs. I would argue that over the last several years the Men's US National Team seems to have a lot more depth and the US soccer player has a lot more opportunity to play in professional US settings and abroad in European markets. I don't think the US has it completely right by any stretch of the imagination but I would argue there has been progress over the last several years of creating a pipeline to better soccer development in Europe and even domestically via the youth structure in spite of the the current league situations. I personally think you will see a bigger and faster drop off with the girls' youth national team performance than you will with the boys mainly because of the availability of MLS academies for boys and nothing comparable for girls (specifically the shortened annual club training cycles).

there is no question -- mls academies have some great players, but so do other clubs.
Perfect example in this age group CESA played CSA for the ecnl national championship.... Both very good sides, neither have a representative selected.

Both very good sides, neither have a representative selected. I agree...but to play devil's advocate; if I am a scout the question I would have is are CESA and CSA good partners to Charlotte FC? Are they funneling their best there and if they are why would I even bother considering scouting CESA and CSA? I know there are some players that turn these MLS Academies down for various reasons but if I am a scout I would have to question a player being looked at that is not at one of the pro academy programs especially when you are in a city with local access to a program.

Charlotte FC doesn't currently have an 06 team. They have an 05 team with some 06s and then an 07 team mixed with some 08s.
