Hey all
Basic questions here.
My kid is U12 this year, 2nd team of 3, not in SCCL (only the 1st team above them is SCCL). Does SCCL exist for U13?
Is that what we would ideally be aiming for for 2022-2023?
Does SCCL have different tiers/levels like academy that group teams at similar levels?
Thank you

You must be in a smaller club that has decided to put some teams in SCCL and some in GA Soccer still. Weird because I would think they would put all in SCCL if they went that route.
To answer your question, yes there are tiers. The top SCCL level is the Club level (SCCL-C for short). That is invite only based on quality of club as a whole. Then there are the Premier levels. So you can have Premier 1 (P1), Premier 2 (P2) etc.... I've seen it as far as P5 before in some age groups. Its dependent on the amount of teams in that age group.
I would petition your club to put a 2nd team in SCCL for your kid's age group. They may already being do so anyway. If they are already accepted into SCCL then they should be able to put any number of teams they can field into it at various levels except SCCL-C level.

Thank you At U12, SCCL-Club is the top team (most, if not all, clubs have 2 teams in SCCL at U12). At U13, the number of options increases significantly and the pyramid fractures. It is also different for boys and girls. For Boys, ECNL, MLS Next, ECNL Regional League, and NL Piedmont Conference all enter the pyramid above SCCL. For Girls, ECNL, GAL, ECNL Regional League, DPL, and NL Piedmont Conference all enter the pyramid above SCCL.

An exception to this instance would be UFA who has their U12 Premier Team in U13 SCCL P1. The UFA Forsyth Red Team and UFA Norcross Premier Team are in U12 SCCL Club D1 and D2 respectively. All the other teams are playing "Academy" from my understanding (I guess that's GA Soccer). UFA Metro Atlanta's U12 is also GA Soccer. (I'm talking about Boys). That said, at U13, I'd shoot first for ECNL or MLS Next. Sticking with the UFA example, I'm assuming that 90% of that team has already been predetermined since the U12 2010s are already playing 11 a side in U13 SCCL P1. And you can look online to see how they are doing in P1. There may be 1 or 2 kids that break into that team, who knows? After ECNL, I thinks there is ECNL-R, SAPL, and SCCL Club. I'll let others comment on quality of football in those leagues and rank them accordingly. IMO, MLS Next is the MLS Academies and other clubs for the MLS Academies to play closer to home. Over time, I'm sure those non-MLS academies will improve because they will want to be competitive. But for now, ECNL Boys seems to have the balance of power since DA went away. It's a numbers game when you look at all the clubs. I'd do some research to see how many types of alphabet teams each club has and go from there...

I was under the understanding that the OP was specifically talking about SCCL and levels of SCCL which is why I didn't mention the leagues that would be considered "above" SCCL. Of course if your kid is good enough to make MLS>>ECNL>>NPL>>SCCL (Club Soccer I'm including only as GA Soccer is a former shell of itself) than your kid should strive to get to the best team he is able to make wherever that falls.

Can dig around the different teams and divisions here: system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/6299This year in U13 a club like Ambush has their first team in SCCL-C and second team in SCCL-3 and third in SCCL-4.

You may be right about what OP was asking. That said, USYS Piedmont is not GA soccer and likely slides in between NPL/SCCL with some teams being high level NPL and some SCCL top level.

So for next year, should i be shooting for SCCL or ECNL? He didn't make the SCCL 1st team but its a smaller club with only 3 teams in his age range (his in the middle team). Current coach is amazing but no way of telling who will be coach next year. He is good enough to be in SCCL; in other words, there is not much of a skill gap between his level and those in the team above him. So....come try outs for U13 next year, if he doesn't make the top team, should we jump ship and consider going elsewhere? (easier said than done).

Shoot for ECNL and MLS Next if your player is good enough. After that, refer to the tiers that have been laid out by posters below. My advice is to watch some games at at those levels. If your players is in enough training and camps, you'll already know who some of the kids that play at the level are and can judge accordingly.

So, if he doesnt make the top team next year (U13) but he's happy at that academy and most kids remain in the current team...how does not progressing to a higher level team there or elsewhere"affect" his soccer skills/trajectory...? He will be 12 y/o in Jan.

He will be 12 y/o in Jan. I think he still has time. The most important things are is he having fun and is he getting better. Also it really depends on where you live and what you like in a coach. Plus if you feel like he needs more of a challenge you can do private training (online programs or with a trainer depending on budget and time). You can try the AU RDS and/or ODP for more of a challenge.

I’d tweak this in the Atlanta region MLS Academies >>ECNL>>MLS Next (non MLS academies)>>NPL==SCCL (All depends on which club)
