Looking at the list, it looks like Nasa had 2 kids selected and UFA had 1.

Signed or not, who earned their way? If its a selection of the best players then the best players (as deemed by someone) should be invited. The questions about local boys was already answered.

“ Those players competing in the National Selection Game will not suit up for their club on game day to ensure proper rest and preparation. Players were selected for the game by ECNL Player Identification staff through a combination of scouting and recommendations based on performances from the past several months.”
So you get selected for this event but then have to choose it over playing for your club team on that same day? I’m sure that had quite a few players decline the invite, especially if they haven’t committed yet and want coaches to see them in their normal comfortable team settings.
Also I’m sure there was quite a bit of politicking involved in these rosters with ECNL wanting as many clubs as possible represented over the truly best of the best.

I know what Soccerhouse is saying -- i know a few examples of girls who played in this game from clubs outside Georgia --- doors opened immediately for them. Their were tons of coaches at the game, and scouting was much easier than at the individual games. -- by virtue of being in this game, she got ACC offers and then leveraged those offers to play elsewhere. if she didn't play in this game - that ACC offer wouldn't have come -- it was what opened the door.

I would suspect there aren't any players turning this game down unless they are 100% sure on where they want to go to school. Scouting for this will without a doubt be more than any individual game the kids will play at the Showcase.

Most kids choose to play and politics are involved, which is no surprise. But what has irked me in my unscientific observation, is that players selected are those that "flash" in games 1 and 2 of showcase weekend. Meaning those that either recorded a score or assisted in a goal, get the benefit of the doubt in the performance column. Not saying those players aren't deserving... but defenders are typically left with the short end of the stick. Doing the dirty work doesn't get you noticed in making "selection" decisions over a wknd. It's easier to glance over the gamecard... okay the attacking mid deserves the nod over the left back... Como?? I know, there's no foolproof method and you want a platform for those high performers, but it's been obvious on a couple occasions.

Sure some CM turn into CB but defense is an art that is valued. Teams at the next level need defenders too.

I agree but I've seen it happen. FWDS become RB/LB and the MIDS become CB.

I agree but I've seen it happen. FWDS become RB/LB and the MIDS become CB. All the time. My friend’s son said at a college ID camp they asked “what position”. (He was a CAM). The first twenty players responded “CM”… so he said “right back” just to get on the field faster.

This game was played on the first night of the showcase and the players didn’t play in their club’s first game today. So their selection was earned over the course of their season… which included playing in their natural positions. Defenders were selected for their defense.
