I will start by saying I'm not looking for technology to make my kid a better soccer player. However, I was thinking about purchasing Playmaker or perhaps some other soccer data analytics technology as a gift to my kid. I just wanted to know if others had feedback on how this technology works and whether or not its worth the investment. Even from a scientific perspective, maybe this helps kids gain more interest in STEM. If there are any parents out there that has a kid who has used this technology, please share your experiences.

Kid loves the playmaker. Enjoys seeing the metrics on work rate and power and distribution and velocity and touches and possession and distance and sprints.
Kid is a STEM nerd.
Kid also “needs” external motivators and this is a nice external motivator than provides self motivation and self drive for improvement
I’ve only ever looked at the stats recently when an injury reoccurred to see if when I was told “I’m already really I can play through it” and used the data to help determine if performance was indeed close to pre injury levels or not.
Although not intended for improvement of soccer skills I feel like the soccer skills have improved simply because of awareness of certain measurable data points that player choose on their own to make a priority.

My kid (U12) liked it from the perspective of seeing his metrics. But the straps hurt the top part of his foot and then he stopped using it. I want him to try the STAT Sports Apex Vest and GPS tracker. But then he would probably complain about wearing it and how it looks during these self-conscious formative years. LOL. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Just depends on your child's motivation and willingness to wear the device.

It's excellent if used correctly.
My kids always liked it as a 'measure'. Did I run more/faster this game? Did I touch the ball more? What was my work rate? etc.
When they're young and not as self-aware, it's a great tool to show them 'no - you walked more than you ran/sprinted.. ' so they try to beat their numbers.
The tech is different.. zepp, playermaker, catapult, etc. They each do things well.
