Our club has traditionally let coaches use the pitch for private lessons. Over the course of the past month, locks have been changed, restrictions put in place and not much communication to the families. We understand that some folks were giving out the the codes and the use of the fields was somewhat taken for granted- but the change to restricting all access is head scratching
Just wondering if other clubs allow players to use the fields for private lessons or is this the standard?
Also wondering if the club is trying to horn in on some of the cash (shocking I know) and maybe make players rent the field space.

Locked fields suck. When I lived near Tampa locks were the norm there as well.
Where I grew up in Ohio every HS field (and track, and bleachers) were open to the public on non event days. It blows my mind that county parks are locked around here. Now I live in Roswell - the local fields that RSC uses are public parks. Pickup games being played all the time (as long as leagues aren’t scheduled to be using them). I love that.

If the fields are city or county owned, seems like they should be open for everyone to enjoy. My son has been training with his coach at a local Middle School and we have been kicked out. Understandable because it’s a school. We also live walking distance to a soccer in the streets pitch which is rarely used and only open the when a program manager is available. The good thing is that there are lots of options when it comes to places to train. The only advantage to training at those fancy soccer parks are goals or ball walls. However that’s what makes it the beautiful game, just need a ball and a little open space!!

Good luck trying to find places that leave the goals out and unlocked. Almost every park (even if they're open) have the goals locked up to the fence. Annoying to work on shooting.

Goals being locked up is typically a liability issue. Clubs don’t want them left out because nets will get ruined or worn out. Parks/Govts don’t want goals left out because idiots like to use them as pull up bars when they’re not weighted or staked down and fall over on said idiot who now needs to call 911.
But yes, most fields and goals are locked up, especially grass fields since they cost so much to keep green.
Just gotta pay more taxes and get more turf fields!
