I'd say the overall is/was necessary and I fully expect them to be competitive soon. He'll bring in players from CA if he has to. Given the resources at UGA, they should be top dawg, no pun intended.
The rest of the SEC should be worried. Lets see what happens.

I am almost certain that Jason Lockhart turned down the head coach position at USC. That is why there was a delay on him immediately jumping to UGA as an assistant. That's a big job to turn down even if CA is expensive. WOW.
There were rumors early that some USC girls may transfer to UGA. Perhaps there may be a 5th year or grad student interested. But, while I know they love Keidane, I don't see a rising Junior or Sr leaving a national championship talented USC team and roll the dice at UGA. I suspect UGA will be good, but not competing for national championships for a while. And, more immediately, UGA lost their top scorer and so, they need to find a way to make up 15ish goals. That won't be easy.

And the two assistants who came from USC (Lockhart and Towne) are still listed as assistant coaches on the USC website.

I'm not saying, UGA will be winning national titles etc. I think the SEC is still far behind the other top dogs.
But now that the Gators soccer program has basically become irrelevant. They used to own the SEC, not any more. But they had a knack for falling short in the NCAA, but they typically had a dominant player on the roster year after year.
It's now Arkansas at the top as they are recruiting heavily in TX and OK and pulling in kids from the southeast as well.
The sec is there for the taking. Success in the NCAA tourney begins with success in conference play and the top teams in the SEC should destroy the bottom of the league.

That won't be easy. 3 girls were seriously considering making the transfer with their now former coach to be reunited, but the word is they were sold on the fact that right now going to UGA would be huge step down for them and would limit the number of national attention they would get, especially since they have dreams of going pro either here with the NWSL or in Europe. Sounds like the first thing the coach has to work on is changing the persona and mindset of how UGA Soccer if viewed...🤞⚽🤞
