Question though...with Fowler does UFA even really need the Polo Fields? I don't have any dog in this fight. Just curious.

Question though...with Fowler does UFA even really need the Polo Fields? I don't have any dog in this fight. Just curious. My kids haven't played at Polo Fields in a few years, but when we did- usually in a UFA tournament- those fields were always in absolutely garbage shape. Didn't matter the time of year or the weather, they were pretty much a goat track. Now, it was nice (in theory) to have some grass fields in that area to go along with the turf at Fowler, but even though I prefer grass to turf in general, those particular fields could make me reconsider. Maybe they've improved them over the past few years though, and if so, please disregard my post.

Question though...with Fowler does UFA even really need the Polo Fields? I don't have any dog in this fight. Just curious. From a financial standpoint for UFA, it makes sense to have those fields if for no other reason that to not have to pay for the use of other locations around town. Additionally, UFA can also rent those fields out for the myriad of tournaments the city hosts. Maybe, just maybe, for those attending the Concorde n SSA tourneys don't have to go to Henry county and spend the night at a hotel to avoid driving over an hour to a local tournament game... p.s. While I like to believe the community should have a say in what occurs with parks and fields like Polo, I believe when compared to some developers deep pockets and "donations" to campaigns of city n county boards, this might truly be an uphill battle. I hold out hope and prayers tomorrow's meeting comes out in favor of delaying another development...🤞⚽🤞

You mean it was like playing in a horse pasture? Also, because it was a polo field, the slope of the field ran the length of the field as opposed to across the field. One half you played uphill and the other half you played downhill.

Playing at the polo fields was a miserable experience, the traffic in and out of that lot was dreadful

I will agree the times my kid played on the Polo fields throughout the Academy years was horrible. It was indeed a horrible muddy or chopped up mess of grass fields (even when it wasn't raining) add to it the traffic and parking, and I would say I wouldn't be sad to see it go, but fortunately my kid's time of ever using that field (unless they referee) is over anyway.
The only other fields I can think of being worse are the lower Rabbit Hill Fields which were just as bad condition wise usually rain or shine.

As a libertarian free market capitalist, the land should go the best and highest use. With the number of available parks in the vicinity, the Polo Fields have outlived their usefulness as a sporting location. From a consumer standpoint, hard to get to, no easy access to restaurants between games, poor field conditions, subpar restrooms, not a lot of positives. I can appreciate the sentimental value some may have, but probably time to move on.

While there did not use to be restaurants in the area, Vickery Village is a nice area almost directly across the street and has several good places to eat, especially if you have a little time to kill. We have had some good team meals at both Cinco's and Cherry Street Brewery. I assume (but may be mistaken) that it is primarily used for the rec program and tournaments.

You're right on the village, although it's a touch hoity-toity... Thinking of faster/cheaper places - Panera, Jimmy John's, Subway, that type of service. In either case, a quick look at Google Maps shows the writing on the wall for that property.

We drove from Fowler to eat brunch there one Saturday morning after one of my kid's early games at the end of season tourneys. They make great Bloody Marys.
