Sadly, I have to share the news that the U15 Goalkeeper for the Atlanta United Academy Christian Carrillo was called home to heaven prematurely, this weekend. Saturday nite, in an all to familiar story, a drunk driver decided to get behind the wheel. My heart goes out to his mother and especially his older brother who was driving and survived the accident. As I know more about the plans, I'll share. Awful. Agonizing. RIP kid. Condolences to loved ones. No excuse to get behind the wheel drunk. Now more than ever.

So, so tragic. Any loss of a child is soul wounding. May peace and fond memories eventually soothe his parents, brother and other family members.
Please everyone...don't drive under the influence. Some people scoff at me for not driving even after one drink (which would not put me over the limit), but if I can tell a change in focus or any other change then I won't risk it even if it would not be illegal.

That's terrible...
I've been in law enforcement for 27 years. Every time I have I hear DUI is a "victimless crime", I think of stories like this.

We were there. The tribute and moment of silence came during halftime. Fans throughout the stadium held up an index finger in a #1. His family was shown on the screen, and I felt so much pain for his mother. This was such a tragedy, but I’m glad that he was honored by the club that he represented. |

Hopefully AU and others continue to recognize and honor Christian - I can't understate enough what a great kid he was, he will always be remembered.
