Does anyone know if they are allowing spectators at the Clemson women vs Auburn women soccer game this Saturday at the ATL United Training Grounds?

I doubt they will be allowing spectators. The first team will be going through drills for their home opener the next day and the 2nd team will be playing a scrimmage against Tormenta. Add to that the reduced parking availability when the first team is on site. Then again, both colleges may have secured an agreement allowing their parents access. However, in that case, you usually have to pre-register to gain access to the training grounds. Good-luck...

What is the benefit of playing a women’s soccer match at the training grounds if can’t have fans, youth players , alumni, etc present? The ladies are not being scouted by ATL. There are plenty of other places to play in Atlanta.

None really except for saying you got to play a game at the AU training facility. Kid got to train there for 3 years...great facility with limited parking. Plenty of seating is available on the back field.

Would you do it again or would you respectfully decline? Guessing you came from one of the other local big clubs, what were the pros and cons of migrating from a UFA, Concorde to AU? Any other parental nugget you're willing to share...

There are plenty of other places to play in Atlanta. The benefit is that it’s a central location. Each team drives 2 hours each way and is home before dinner.

I get that but aren’t there dozens of places in metro Atlanta where they could play and fans would be allowed. Silverbacks, KSU, GA State, SSA, MOBA, a local high school, etc all come to mind.

And also have plenty of parking. I've never been to United's training grounds but sounds like it's pretty tight based off some earlier posts in this thread.

The best option (if they must be at AU) would be to park at the public soccer fields down the street and have a shuttle (if they wanted fans).

It depends on their goals. For most college teams spring soccer is about development, NOT necessarily growing the fanbase. Auburn and Clemson both played in Atl last fall and will probably play in atlanta again in the fall. My guess is this is a reward for the players to play in a nice training facility with access possibly to Atl UTD loccer rooms and such...

In D1 college athletics, every road trip is a business trip to one degree or another… I would argue growing the fan base is top of the list along with recruitment, marketing and lastly exposure for their current players at the AU facilities.
This appears to be decision that sounded great when first drawn up on paper and AU had other late plans/ideas. At this point I’d bet the Auburn/Clemson coaches and AD’s would prefer another location if fans aren’t welcome or welcomed to experience.

It is very simple...The two teams want to meet at a middle location that is easier for all parties including players & staff for nothing more than a SPRING season scrimmage. They do not want fans or alumni to attend... they want them to attend regular season games where they can sell tickets. They will not have access to locker rooms or any other benefits that atl utd players / academy has access to. They just want to have a good match at a neutral facility that is both travel & budget friendly.

Parking at CHOA is just fine for the academy families but it does tend to get tight on match days sometimes. Probably due to everyone in the family and friends wanting to come take pictures & look around. No big deal, just park down the street and walk a short distance. Has anyone ever been to another MLS training facility to note how many parking spaces there are? Most people that complain about things like this don’t even play for AU.

No spectators will be allowed entry unless your name is on the security list. All other MLS training facilities are the same (minus a few) and not meant to have people wandering about while the pros are training.

See my thoughts above… The glorified scrimmages are about development and taking the current players to a cool location to play. Auburn and Clemson are both 2 hrs from Atl.

These mls facilities look like old ymcas compared to Clemson and auburns football facilities. Seems very short sided by these programs.

The soccer players at these schools don't use the football facilities, except things like the indoor practice fields and other areas that are used by all sports. I have to think the actual soccer facilities at Clemson & Auburn are a few notches below what Atlanta United has.

That they have seen incredible facilities before. Clemsons new facility looks nice. Not sure about auburns.
It’s all about brand recognition and maybe a top u14 player goes out watches this game and falls in love with auburn. Well they ain’t happening now.

Kid trained at AU and visited Clemson. The Clemson playing field and facilities are very nice. AU has the one building with offices and viewing with multiple fields that stand above. Colleges do not really have a need for that many fields though.

Clemson’s football facilities are obviously outstanding… but so are their soccer facilities. This “midway between” venue makes sense... It’d just make more sense if the AU stadium was opened to spectators.
