Today for the first time I saw a tournament utilize one referee per field for every age group/gender for the entire weekend. I guess not using AR's is one way to increase revenue.

What tourney and ages? Curious if that was by design or circumstance. Every tournament is always panicking for referees up to the last minute. For example, received an email at 9 am yesterday looking for a full crew for a 10 am alphabet league game... Tourney assigners emailing at midnight for 8 am kick offs after assigned referees turn back games. No skin in this one, just curious.

Sounds like a Concorde move, though Rysa did host a small event this weekend. 😂😂😂😂
We had full crews at Rush’s tournament at the GSA fields.

FWIW I know they must have been hard pressed to find refs for Concorde. My daughter doesn't ref for them normally and she was asked to work this weekend at Sharon Springs Park and today at Fowler. She was part of 3 person crews however.

I get a ref a shortage, maybe have three referees for the older age groups and one for the younger ones, but this seems like a concerted effort to just use one referee for every game just to save money.

I would have turned down any assignment as a referee if I were assigned and the only one in an 11v11 match. U12 and below, I can deal with it, but it isn't ideal for U11/U12. U10 and below can easily be 1 referee. I can't imagine the amount of lack of calls, bad calls, and lack of offside calls that would happen in an 11v11 match.
