what! it was too good to be true. guaranteed 4 games. holiday weekend. what a shame.
INAUGURAL ATLANTA FIRE UNITED SA NIKE SOUTHEAST JAM-FEST INVITATIONAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT OCTOBER 11 - 13, 2014 - IMPORTANT - TOURNAMENT IS CANCELLED (Thursday, September 10th) - It is with much regret that we have to cancel the Atlanta Fire United Nike Jamfest scheduled for October 11th and 12th. Due to late installation of sod on the fields we would be using for the tournament and a construction project on a second location we have been told we cannot use the fields to avoid additional wear and tear by the government entities that own the locations we were going to use. We have been negotiating for a few weeks to keep the use of the fields but were unsuccessful. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you can get into another event.

Just because Gwinnett County is off that Monday doesn't mean everyone else was. The best upcoming tournament will be the Norcross one with the trip to Real Madrid, I almost want to go watch that final game because it will be very competitive!

Yes it's a bummer...AFU has had some rotten luck with those fields not being ready. Some teams (my oldest's included) have had to practice at alternative locations as they wait for the sod to take at the regular fields. Now the entire club is having to change to a different kit due to a malfunction at a Nike factory which is causing the new kits for 2014 to unravel. No problems for us with the kit (so far) but some of the shirts are falling apart at the seams. Some fell apart upon their first wearing.

Gwinnett should have gotten the ball rolling on that sod beginning of summer...shame!
sucks about the kits too!! how your UFA kit holding up? some kids lost the patches at the preseason tournament! Some of the writing in the front of some is fading....what is it this year?? lol

ha, i think we need a uniform thread (no pun intended....)
haven't seen the afu unis in person, how do they look? i can tell ya, the concorde red/white stripe jerseys are probably the worst uni's i've seen in a long time!
which reminds me, since we are on AFU, my son's 9's played them this past weekend, they had a u9 player get a freaking yellow card! i've only seen one other yellow at the u9 level, and that was for a blatant push and uniform tug.

Oh the Concorde ones are nothing, Bluesprings Liberty have been wearing red and white candy stripes for the last two years but with red shorts! I just can't stand watching my niece play in that kit.

No problems for us with the kit (so far) but some of the shirts are falling apart at the seams. Some fell apart upon their first wearing. There was apparently a shortage of bermuda sod in the southeast that made it tough for counties and sports associations to get enough sod and what they were able to get was higher in price than usual. Any parks that needed to do a significant amount of resodding were at the mercy of the scheduling of the sod farms. I know of some parks in the metro area that weren't able to get enough. Hopefully the sod farms will have better luck this fall and winter. I expect some fields to look pretty rough come next summer. www.caes.uga.edu/applications/gafaces/?public=viewStory&pk_id=4996What a pain to have to replace all the kits!

Worries me a bit with all these problems with the kits considering it's the beginning of a 2 year cycle and they aren't cheap by any means. Enough trouble and I can see everyone switching to a 1 year cycle and it's expensive enough! LOL

Wow...my kid reffed a game that had a UFA u11 boy get a yellow. I asked the center ref after the game what happened and he said he warned him several times to stop the rough play and he ignored him. They usually don't like to give cards so early but if the situation warrants I'm sure they will. I didn't know the story with the sod. I'm guessing that is the problem that some of the clubs are having with the fields not being ready. Nothing destroys a newly installed sod like a bunch of youth soccer players! I like the AFU uni's. It's similar to the Concorde but not exactly. The horizontal stipes are smaller and multicolored with the back being a solid color. Here's a pic...ignore the shorts...those are NSA from last year. My kid loves them. She said the air flow with the mesh in the back really makes it much cooler.
