I really hope the U.S. game evolves to this level. My youngest is obsessed with European soccer and who can blame her? I have a hard time getting her to root for the USWNT even in the olympics. The only way we can truly elevate the standard is by making the game more accessible. Physicality and depth is all we have. What happens when other teams catch on? I don't suspect the U.S. will continue to dominate.
I've said it before and I'll die on this hill, some of the best talent and most technically sound players in our nation are in places like Clarkston. Could easily take every spot on top teams in any age group. They just do not have the means to pay an average of $10,000 a year for the highest level of play. Clubs may cover initial costs, but don't cover tournament fees, or traveling expenses. The U.S. has such an advantage with the amount of refugees and immigrants in our country. The only commonality between them and their peers is soccer most of the time, yet they are continuously cut out. Money talks and we continue to suffer because of it.
