Curious if anyone has an idea how strict ECNL is about this We are going to nationals and for a one-week stay, one of our two hotels options is just over $1500. I imagine some would like to find an alternative on their own for whatever reason.

I imagine some would like to find an alternative on their own for whatever reason. It depends on your club and coach. I’m sure that some are strict. Talk with them. Our current coach has allowed us to stay with family whenever in a town with relatives close by. It’s not like we’re giving money to the wrong hotel. Also, recently the window to book the room was very brief and I missed it by a day. I checked with the same hotel and no rooms were available, so I booked a room nearby.

The team can opt of the stay to play if they pay a $500 fee (as a team). If the team Isn’t willing to/wanting to do that, then as the pp said, it depends on your coach. Some coaches are understanding. Others are not.

I should say that I’ve always tried to comply with policy except for our Texas Showcase trip where we wanted to stay with my wife’s brother. In general the hotels have been good, and the rates have been reasonable.
$1,500 for hotels is another level of crazy.

I’m thankful to our coach for being very accommodating for our upcoming trip to San Diego. He basically said “do what is best for you and your family.”
A trip to the West Coast is different to going to the Carolinas. I think clubs and governing bodies should understand this.

“Hotel Lottery: Please remember that no ECNL Club or team may make hotel reservations outside of the ECNL booking process”
So even if the coach is ok with the team spitting up, does ECNL strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger if not enough stay at the appointed hotel?
And for a week, assuming 7 nights, a little over $200/night doesn’t seem crazy for socal 🤷♂️

Painful. 😣

I imagine some would like to find an alternative on their own for whatever reason. Simply put, they are very, very, very strict. I believe up to 10% of the team can forgo staying at the official hotel but as a team/club you risk their wrath...

Our team is being told they are delayed in making hotel lottery notifications and is suggesting we stay in dorm rooms. Our parents would prefer to find our own accommodations given we are 3 weeks out from San Diego and they are nowhere near our lottery number—and paying to sleep on a twin dorm mattress with no TV or amenities is not acceptable. Anyone else facing similar?

Anyone else facing similar? OMG! U r kidding, right?!? I wish I was. Families are paying thousands of dollars in flights etc to be there for the week and they are suggesting we stay in dorm rooms with twin mattresses and shared communal bathrooms or offering dorm “suites”. We want to book our own accommodations. Just curious if anyone has heard of this before?
