NTH, UFA and Concorde have been doing this for years. I think that it goes back to DA. The clubs would have DA tryouts during the day so players from multiple clubs could attend and then everything else was later so kids could go back to their home club if they did not make DA. If the player is not sure where they stand, they have to go to both because it is a different set of coaches. When it was DA, they would let people know pretty quickly whether to keep coming back or to make other plans. I am sure that things are as transparent now. It is a huge pain for the U15-U17 age groups when parents are still working and kids can't drive yet. It is nice to know whether you should stay there or go to later session. You are right about it being a huge pain. With the way that tryouts have changed over the years so that only 4 age groups are the 2nd week and every club has an "elite" option, clubs really should stop the split tryout.

How many club tryouts did NOT look like this: 1. Coaches gathered players around for a quick discussion 2. Kids were separated by age, size, and the ones that knew which team they were on 3. Quick warm-up (or none) 4. Scrimmaging the rest of tryouts as coaches moved kids up and down based on something they liked or didn't like. Other coaches chatting, laughing, and not paying attention. Reply with a club that doesn't follow this format. We must have been at the same club I was there also..

That's funny and definitely depends on the mom. She could be horrid and the kid is good so then coach has to deal with that.

Today marks Day 3 of tryouts. Any surprises? GSA had 90 girls register for the 08, and the older age groups appear to be about half or 2/3 of that. Also heard AFU had a great showing for same age groups. Boys weren’t there at the same field so can’t speak to them. Curious how the other big clubs did … UFA, TOPHAT, Concord.

Girls-AFU had a large turnout and a friend’s daughter was told on Day 2 that she made the team she wanted. GSA had a good turnout especially in the 08 age group and heard the boys tried out earlier in the day. For TopHat, seems it went smooth. Concorde ENCL/RL day tryouts were setup like rotations with all the girls mixed for some age groups. The UFA girls had tryouts earlier in the day and for one age group heard it was smaller than expected on Day 1, but picked up by Day 2 and 3, so overall good showings.
I know that I am dreaming…but it would be good if on “Day 1” clubs post how many spots are available for each level, that way parents know their options. This is why talking to coach ahead of time should be your top priority because we all know many teams are filled before tryouts.
