We did not have a great experience and know many who did not. However he is a good technical and tactical coach IMO. It is the personal part we did not like. Not abusive but lied and promised things that never happened. Too much rondo when we had him. Rondo is fine but not every practice for half of it. We do know people that loved him too. Our experience was 40% liked and 60% did not.

Best coach we've had so far. High soccer IQ and strict to his philosophy win, lose or tie. Yes, lots of Rondo but he will own it and can(will) break it down for you why. Practices are tight and efficient.
Expect to get most of your communication through your player. I'm not sure if this is by design or if it's just his personality but it's never been a problem for us. He's always been polite and respectful to the parents and players.

Generally during those sessions there will be complaints and grumbling by the coach; rather than useful observations, encouragement, and doling out soccer IQ. I call ‘too much rondo’ lazy coaching.

Should probably clarify that the lies and promises were to the player mostly.

Should probably clarify that the lies and promises were to the player mostly. I think that skill is part of the mandatory coaching curriculum.

Best coach my daughter has ever had. He gets all his coaching education in Barcelona, Spain and even took quite a few players with him recently (per TH social media)
I agree that he mostly communicates with players but most of the coaches my daughters have had at the older ages do the same. No complaints.
If you see his teams play, you can see very attractive soccer being played. I agree with above poster about his philosophy win lose or tie. All the players from his TH teams love him from what we know.

No direct experience but the 06 TH team has had significant changes to the roster with only a handful of girls staying (coach cut or player went elsewhere by choice).

Would appreciate any thoughts from those with experience. My kid thrived under Coach Alex. He expects the kids to work hard and not goof off. He was a great technical and tactical teacher. Unfortunately, at the middle youth ages, you have probably 1/3 of the team that really isn’t interested in working hard at practice and will complain about it to mommy and daddy. He stated every year upfront that he would talk to the kids first and that the kids were to talk to their parents. Hate to have to have the kids take on any responsibility of communication. My kid would communicate with us after each practice or game on how it went, what the coach had to say, etc. and YES, they did a lot of rondo. How did you expect them to improve their footwork? Lots more touches in a shorter period of time. From what I see, many of the youth teams could use more of it. I got to know Alex over about a two year period and he is a good guy and a family man. He is engaged in his training and actually tried to coach the kids (well as much as kids these days will actually listen and follow directions). Your kid will be in an environment to learn disciplined style soccer. No kick and run. I would not shy away from Him as a coach by any means.

Alex is a good person and yes he is quiet/shy but most of the girls loved playing for him. It would be nice if the coaches would just talk to the parents up front it might help. No coach is perfect but at least Alex cares, wants to win and loves the game of soccer.
