Parents see their kids through a different lens. Many feel like they are treated like pigeons in a hole. And likewise, many are correctly placed.
Advice: Just encourage them and enjoy the experience. The ride will be over before you know it. Emphasizing a perceived negative is likely to end it even sooner.

Unfortunately very common for higher level kids from outside clubs to get offered spots even without tryouts. They always say you have to attend all 3 days but few stick to that. Two choices. Stay and encourage your child to work hard and do their best and reward for effort (praise, encouragement). Leave and find a place that you think fits your child's level better.

My child is in the same age group and every new player on our team is from outside the club. So, yes this is the norm. Youth soccer is a business and adding new players adds new customers. They know parents are willing to pay for the same level of play, without leaving the club. Especially if they attended all three days of tryouts. If you are looking to move up as a player your best bet is to try out at mutiple clubs or pay for private lessons, that always seems to help.

At that age too I would look at going to multiple clubs' ID camps. Gives you an idea of where you stand and most clubs have coaches of the lower teams there so you can talk to them too. You may be stuck for this year but you can always look and see if any clubs are doing supplemental tryouts. Many do. Usually lower level teams but at U13 they may move kids up that show a higher level or at least let you train with them.

It is the coaches job to improve the team which includes knowing where the best players are at whether thats their club or another. By u15, the coaches know who the very best players are and will recruit them. Buddies kid got recruited to a big 5 club along with 4 or 5 other players. They went from mid pack to the National championship game and the top ranking in the southeast. They all had spots before tryouts. Kid was offered spot 10 minutes into tryouts before any current team members.

Daughter was invited to a couple of pre tryout practices from coaches that have seen her play through players she plays HS with and was verbally offered a spot after one practice pre ID camp. It makes sense that the older they get and play with kids outside of club that those players do recruiting also and know who is looking to or willing to move over.
