I have seen this in youth sports, but I don't think I have ever heard about it in something so prestigious as the World Cup.
"Ecuador are set to be KICKED OUT of the Qatar World Cup by FIFA and replaced by Chile' after claims that defender Byron Castillo is actually COLOMBIAN and was not eligible to play in their qualifying campaign"
It also states that Italy could possibly get the spot if this occurs... could be interesting to watch what happens.

I’ve ready about this a few times. The issues of Castillo’s paperwork have made multiple clubs back off from signing him. That being said, how would Italy get the spot? With the forfeitures for playing an ineligible player, Chile would rightfully gain that spot by getting the points. If FIFA DQ’s Ecuador but then bypasses a South American club for Italy, then it just proves how corrupt the organization is. Unless I’m missing something….

Sounds like the Chamblee championship scenario. After qualification is over, Chile reports Ecuador in the hopes of jumping into the World Cup. As the 7th place finisher, Chile should not make it. Seems like Colombia or Peru have the best argument for the spot.

Sorry, I meant to post a link to it so others could investigate the claims. The Italy chance is more wishful thinking on their end... "The report also claims there is a faint hope from Italy that they might be able to take advantage of Ecuador's potential expulsion and be included in the World Cup despite being dumped out by North Macedonia in the play-offs. That might be possible if FIFA award Ecuador's place to the team with the best position in their World Rankings instead."

Chile did the same thing at the last world cup (file a complaint against Bolivia). They still didn't go to the world cup, they need to stop complaining and just play.
If any decision is made, it needs to be done before Monday. That's when Peru is set to play against Australia for the last WC spot.
