Looking for info on the GA Pre-GPL league. My son's u12 team will be playing in the league this Fall and wondering what competition will be like. Do the tier 1/2 teams from larger ATL clubs play in this league or go elsewhere?
Thanks!

In response to the above question, the Big 5 clubs top teams play in ECNL. Some of the clubs play in MLS Next. You may play these clubs in pre-season tournaments instead of league play.

At U12B the top two teams from AFU, GSA, NASA, UFA and CF plus AU, SSA, Rush and Roswell all play SCCL as ECNL/ECRL doesn't start until U13. Starting with U13 UFA, AFU, CF, UFA and GSA's top team plays ECNL with their second team in ECRL.

Bigger based on rec numbers, but I may be wrong about that. Does georgia soccer still college rec numbers?

Expect a good bit of travel. Not a lot of Atlanta clubs still in there.
Expect trips to Savannah United, Dalton Red Wolves and NSA, Macon, TRAC, Madison, UFA South GA/Tifton, and I’m sure another random club that’s looking for decent U12 competition.

With that said there have been some pretty good teams in Pre-GPL in the past. Sometimes divisions are geographic with less parity, other times there's more travel but competition may be better. Travel in GA Soccer nowadays is inevitable since most Atlanta metro based clubs play in SCCL and one big reason is to avoid traveling to places like Savannah and South Ga. In GPL an Atlanta based team should expect a couple 3+hr road trips per season. More travel obviously for remote out of market teams.

There is usually only one/two weekends where you may want to or have to schedule a hotel stay. If the coaches are smart, they can schedule games halfway when/if you play Rome or Dalton.
